…and yet the National Firearms Act (NFA) is still with us, becoming evermore ridiculous, evermore illogical, and always (still) un-Constitutional.
Here’s the best history of the disgusting thing I’ve ever seen which — as with so many of the bullshit laws and bureaucracies that still bedevil us to this very day — stemmed from the diseased liberal New York mind of the sainted Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
And the Act’s very vagueness of terminology makes it almost unique among our forest of laws in its ability to turn any gun owner into an instant felon without him knowing about it until the AT-fucking-F agency thugs drag him away in chains. And said feature alone should make it legal poison, except that the Department of (alleged) Justice is too busy fucking around with irrelevancies like the Epstein files.
Kill the NFA. Kill it stone dead, and then abolish the ATF in toto, because the government has no business in the alcohol, tobacco and (especially) the firearms business. I might make a teeny exception for the oft-elided “E” — explosives — part of the agency’s nomenclature, but those first three initials? X marks the spot in the back of the neck, for each of them.
Otherwise? Line ’em up.
Shift the ATF(E) back under Treasury where it came from and rightfully belongs as a TAX REGULATORY AGENCY; strip the “E” and send that function back to the Fibbers who already address the unlawful use thereof at the Federal level, drop the “F” entirely as SBRs, SBSs, and Silencers no longer have a tax attached to them (and DD and MG ought not either) and thus have no taxation to regulate, leaving them with “A” and “T”….and strip the agency of any authority to have armed agents. They’re paper puchers and accountants, if they need “muscle” let them ask local police or the Fibbers for it.
The John Ross book “Unintended Consequences” goes into exhaustive detail about the POS that is the NFA. And a fair bit of ‘how to’ on getting rid of it, and those who support it.

The ATF is (was) a taxing entity. That was why it was part of the TREASURY !!
It started by going after stills and the taxes ‘unpaid’ taxes on ‘shine’
that the still operator(s) neither collected nor gave to the government. Somewhere along the line, somebody got confused about their job description and their purpose in doing that job.
It morphed into a law ‘enforcement agency’ that discovered it could
be MUCH larger and more powerful by concentrating on fire arms
And that, as they say, is how we got here and, IMHO will stay here
until ……………………………………….
Add the diseased mind of TR & Woodrow Wilson to the list. 20th Century saw 5 of the worst Presidents we ever had. WW, FDR, LBJ, TR, RMN probably in that order. I include Nixon not because of Watergate (don’t give a shit) but because he enshrined the EPA into existence. Honorable mention Jimmeh.
Warren Harding gets a lot of guff but he was simply corrupt, we as a nation can survive corruption, I’m not sure we can survive Moral Crusaders.
