There were many good reasons for the United States and Israel to finally move against Iran this month, and the need to end the Iranian mullahs’ control of their clients in nearby countries—Lebanon, Gaza, Yemen, etc.—is at the top of that list.
However, if regime change in Iran also enables the Houthis to be defanged and the Suez Canal to be reopened at last—as it must—the billion-dollar-per-day transportation savings to the world economy that result from it will, in itself, have made it all worthwhile.
This isn’t about Israel and the United States alone; it’s about every developed and developing nation on earth. Everyone uses the Suez Canal; everyone needs it.
Errr nazzo fast, Guido. I appreciate that the Suez Canal may be an important sealane, so to speak, and most certainly for Yurp and Britishland. But is it that important to the U.S.? I’m thinking, not. Most of our trade comes from the Far East over the Pacific, and from Yurp over the Atlantic. I’m struggling to think what doesn’t use either of those routes; and if so, why would we care — other than for purely altruistic reasons, i.e. to bail the Euros out of yet another mess — to intervene in the Red Sea?
For that matter, the Straits of Hormuz aren’t that important to Magaland either; as DJT has pointed out, the U.S. gets nary a single barrel of oil out of the Persian Gulf because we roll our own.
Now I can see why Suez might be an important military thoroughfare for our Navy, each time we want to leave the Mediterranean Sea to whack Persian pee-pee, so to speak. But even that is not a priority, really.

Keeping the Suez canal and Straits of Hormuz closed is exactly what the USA wants.
After ensuring a few years ago that the oil pipeline from the Middle East to Turkey through Syria would never be built, the USA has now closed down most of the rest of the flow of oil and natural gas from the region to Europe and the rest of the world.
And with the oil industry in Venezuela shut down by the USA last year, and the sanctions against Russia (not the USA’s fault, to be fair) meaning Russian oil and gas is largely unavailable that leaves the USA as pretty much the major supplier of oil and gas in the world, so they can just about dictate prices and supply or withhold the most vital substance for the modern world from other countries at their discretion, rewarding or punishing countries for being good or bad little serfs.
With so Macchiavellian a scheme, I guess Trump isn’t such a bumbling fool after all, then.
If the US was able to control the cost of oil this easily then wouldn’t Yurp be crawling back and kissing the Donald’s ring?
The Euro trash is too stupid to see that they will benefit greatly from Iran’s regime of terrorists being removed. They will have less terror attacks to fear. They might also experience fewer seventh century migrants into their countries. A civilized regime in Tehran might ship oil to Europe and welcome Western companies into Iran to develop more oil production.
Considering the shitty regimes around the world, American Imperialism could improve the world very easily.
But what about Mulla’s that have been hiding wealth in other countries? There are a few that have brought their extended families to Canada.

Wouldn’t the solution for the Mullah’s simply be to give as free a rein to the drug cartels as needed to keep the Crackheads too high to be a problem? American Drug enforcement will never put 2 and 2 together to get anything but 5, and the situation could go on for decades. By then, who knows how alien the Mullahs will be regarded?
