Critter Control

From Brit Reader Quentin, asking (for a Brit) a hypothetical question:

“Do you have any thoughts on which pistol to use with wildlife, not goblins? After all, shooting snakes and other critters was one of the main uses of pistols.”

My answer:
It kinda depends on the size of the critters. Basically, a .22LR will handle 99% of critter-elimination needs (shotshells in the case of reptiles). Larger critters may need a little more, but I struggle to think of many.

Myself, I carry a little NAA Mini-revolver in .22 Magnum (loaded with two CCI shotshells and three hollowpoints) if I’m out doing my morning walk (angry unleashed dogs, for the shooting of), or if I’m ever out in an area where there may be snakes and such.

(I’ve actually shot a couple of snakes with the rimfire shotshell, and the result is that the worm just goes limp — lights-out with a single shot.)

But any rimfire revolver would do, of course:

That’s a Colt Peacemaker with .22 LR / .22 WMR cylinders.  For us mere mortals who don’t want to spend two grand on a rimfire plinker, there’s always the cheaper option, such as the Ruger SP101 double-action:

… or the single-action Ruger Bearcat (.22 LR only):

…or Single Six (like the Colt above, with the LR/WMR interchangeable cylinders):

…as well as the usual S&W K-22s, etc. (like this “Heritage” model):

[drooooool]…

Where was I?  Oh yeah, critter guns…

If anyone has any other suggestions, I’ll happily entertain them in Comments.

Yes, Of Course

From Myron Magnet at City Journal (on another topic):

“Don’t you think the whole effort of modernism—in architecture, in literature, in music, in painting—might have been a huge dead end, from which Western culture will painfully have to extricate itself?”

Longtime Readers of my fevered scribblings and rants will know that I am an implacable enemy of Modernism (and its bastard child, Postmodernism), so to me, Magnet’s question should really be a statement, with no conditional verbs.

Modernism has been a spiritual dead end, in its subjugation of beauty and form into soulless utilitarianism and the inscrutable abstract, and wherever its proponents (Le Corbusier, Duchamps, Von Der Rohe, Kandinsky and all the other charlatans) might be today, I hope the temperature is set to “BROIL”.

 Kandinsky: Garden of Love II

As for Magnet’s primary thesis (that of the imperilment of free speech), I think I’ve covered it already in my recent “Kicking Down Fences” post, but that shouldn’t stop you from reading Magnet’s greatly-superior take on the topic.

Telling It Like It Is

From the Knuckledragger (one of my favorite reads) on some study or other:

“Personally, I think this is full of shit.”

As do I.  The title of the piece is:  “Let the arguments begin.”

None from me.  And this comment alone puts the man squarely into my foxhole:

“And as a side note concerning those folks that didn’t have any spare ammo to shoot with me, if I can’t walk out to my truck right fucking now and find at least a 20 round box of 45 and 357 stashed in there, I’ll kiss your ass.”

A couple months ago I found a loaded 1911 mag in the glove box.  I have no idea how long it’s been in there…

Fools, Idiots And Feminists (Some Overlap)

I think I’ve told the story before of how I was taking a Sociology class at college when the Commie / feminist professor [redundancy alert] asked the question of the class:

“Is gender a social construct?”

…whereupon I answered quickly:

“Yes it is… provided that one ignores completely all genetic study and research conducted on the topic since the 1970s.”

Icy silence from the professor followed.  (Incidentally, I got an A for the course because she never could dispute any of my papers’ theses.)

I was reminded of this happy little exchange when I read Heather Mac Donald’s latest article in City Journal.  Hie thee hither and read all of it, for verily (as always with Heather) it’s nothing but net, and will give you all the ammo you’ll ever need when debating some loony feminist [redundancy alert, again] on the topic.

Heather Mac Donald’s collected writings should be required reading in any Humanities course at university, which means that it will never happen because Commies hate any writing which places fact over dogma and disturbs The Narrative.

Quote Of The Day

From Jazz Shaw at Hot Air:

“This is the stuff that gives senior Democratic Party leaders nightmares. Their voters came withing spitting distance of nominating a card-carrying socialist last time around and it divided the party in two. Without the superdelegates acting as the adult monitors in the room, who might they nominate next? A member of Antifa?”

We can only hope.

1) “Unexploded World War II bombs hamper efforts to battle massive wildfires rampaging through a German forest” — don’t care;  they started it.

2) “Mummified body found in a hoarder’s home ‘belonged to a cat burglar who was executed on the spot after being caught in the act’ ” — I have an alibi.  (Oh, sure:  like you’ve never thought about doing it.)

3) “Wednesday’s Cascadia Quake A Wake-Up Call For Pacific Northwest:  Feared Mammoth 9.0+ Quake A Matter Of When, Not If” — can’t wait.

4) “The eurozone is destined to fail.” — can’t wait, Part II.

5) “State Department is blocking economic aid slated for the Palestinians and is sending it somewhere else!” — about time, too.  God-Emperor Trump continues to wow conservatives, this time by shafting those Arab assholes — who don’t deserve anything from us considering their past, present and future behavior.

And your “feelgood” story of the day:

6) “Clueless couple struggled to get pregnant for four years are told by doctor the wife is still a virgin because they were having anal sex” — well, at least the husband got something out of it… but after they figured out what they were doing wrong, she got pregnant, which as any fule kno, is when the sex stops.  I know all this sounds unlikely, but let us remember that this happened in China, where anything’s statistically possible in a population of 1.5 billion people.
