…and no, this isn’t a dig against the .dotmil. But you have to admit that this kind of stupidity is kinda different — an upgrade, if you will — from just the usual Congressional idiocy:
Pennsylvania state Rep. and former Democratic Party Vice-Chair Malcolm Kenyatta pushed a ban on “military-grade weapons” after the handgun/shotgun attack that occurred at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner (WHCD).
Yeah, by all means let’s ban include pump-action shotguns and handguns in the category of “military-grade weapons” (whatever that means) — because after all, the military does use them, right?
Sheesh, when clowns like this can be elevated to the position of Democrat Party Vice-Chair, what does that say for the people who couldn’t make the grade? And to use a sporting term, how deep is their bench of quality politicians?
Simple answer, of course, is that the current Democrat Party has no bench; their talent pool, which may once have contained intelligent men like Tip O’Neill and Sam Rayburn have all been driven out of the party leadership in favor of vacuous idiots like AOC and larcenous malcontents like Ilhan Omar, all by the hard Marxists who are now the nomenklatura of the Party Of Jefferson — who by now would have used a handgun on pretty much all of them if he could see what they’ve done to it.
As for this moron Kenyatta, he’s just trying to leverage any opportunity to get guns out of the hands of citizens. At least he’s behaving quite like his namesake, who was also an Afro-Socialist.
One of these days, before the Stupid Party loses their majorities, they should pass a law to define “military grade weapon.” Something like guided missiles, bombs over 100 pounds, indirect fire weapons, and guns with multiple rotating barrels driven by a motor. I think we can agree that those are generally only used by the military.
Not that those should all be illegal, but I’d be OK with requiring an extra background check.
And maybe a law that any reporter using the term for normal weapons should be subject to public ridicule for three days in the stocks. (It’s probably cruel and unusual to let people throw things at them, though.)
“Military grade” weapons are the whole fucking point of the 2A.
I cannot recall the name of the person who said during the discussion before the Second Amendment was ratified that the weapons they intended to include and ensure they were in the hands of the People were “every terrible instrument of war.”, which included the 17th century equivalent of every weapon listed by DavidD.
In those days, the Constitution saw private citizens owning warships and cannon.
The clause in the Constitution authorizing Letters of Marque and Reprisal is an absolute joke if the only weapons and materiel a citizen could assemble after receiving the Letter were a single-shot rifle chambered in .22lr and an 8 foot Sabot.
I read someplace (in a book, as this was pre-internet) that the Redcoats marching out to Lexington on April 19, 1775 to seize war supplies, including gunpowder.
Democrats jettisoned the practice of meritocracy decades ago and moved to demographic based promotion. Look at all of their “leading” figures, AOC, Schmuck Schumer, Omar, Tlaib, Hak Jeffries etc. Every single one checks one or more boxes on the demographic charts in order to get their intersectionality points. Ability has nothing to do with it. In fact, the more loud, obnoxious, insufferable and dishonest you are, the higher you will go in the racist democrat death cult.
isn’t an 1961 Springfield musket a military grade weapon? how about a 1903 Springfield rifle and its variants?
Ignore the term “military grade” as well as “assault weapon.” If you beat someone with a stapler, does that make it an “assault stapler?” Their language games are foolish so don’t play them.
David, the background checks are done by the government so it wouldn’t take much for the government to shut off the background check system. It happes in many states on an irregular basis. the system “goes down for maintenance.” As Martin Luther King Jr accurately observed, “a right delayed is a right denied.”
As my Marine Corp. sons would point out, “military grade” means “lowest bidder.” Frankly, I’m insulted if you refer to my personal AR as “military grade;” I think it’s better than the average rifle handed out to our soldiers. It’s a basic consumer AR, and it works. Every time. If you’re buying an upper tier AR, such as a Daniel Defense or similar maker, you’re getting considerably better than “military grade.”
The whole “military grade” label is code for the idiotic masses, like “assault rifle.” It’s stupid, but then most people are not well informed about firearms and 2nd Amendment history and policy. They just go on about their lives, and labels like this are easy shorthand for something they don’t really understand. It’s like the “weapons of war” canard; I’ve got a safe full of actual “weapons of war.” The reality, of course, is a weapon is literally anything used as such, be it an AR, a Garand, or a stapler or baseball bat. All, used properly (or improperly), can kill.
