Sent to me once more by Reader Brad_In_IL, news of this happy event:
A licensed concealed carry holder shot and killed a man who broke into his home and charged at him early Monday.
The 33-year-old concealed carry license holder called 911 at 1:24 a.m. and told dispatchers he had shot an intruder inside his home in the 2200 block of East 103rd Street and had already begun performing CPR on the man, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
Good news:
Officers arrived and took over lifesaving measures, but the intruder, who remained a “John Doe” as of Monday evening, was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m.
Even better news:
[Our Hero’s] home is across the street from the South Chicago (4th) District station.
Look, I know that there are few PhD candidates among the Violent Burglary Set, but even so… dude?
Anyway, a one-shot kill:

…and some applause, please:

Finally, according to the report:
Detectives are investigating the shooting.
Even in Chicago, I bet it’s going to set a record for “fastest investigation and clearing, ever.”
“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”
Even when it appears, as in this case, that the erstwhile asset redistributionist chose someone just across the street from the Police station.
“ he had shot an intruder inside his home in the 2200 block of East 103rd Street and had already begun performing CPR on the man”
He’s a better person than I am. NOT A FUCKING CHANCE would I be performing CPR on any intruder in my home.
Can’t breathe? Should have thought of that before you kicked in the door to a house that does not belong to you and that you were also not invited to.
I can’t remember where, but read that when calling it in, to state several obvious points very precisely to the 911 operator – 1) you are the victim, 2) you were attacked, 3) you acted in self-defense, and 4) please send an ambulance for the attacker. That 4th one is to show you are a caring individual and not a depraved killer in case the DA wants to prosecute you. That might be the reasoning behind the “performing CPR” comment, IDK, just a guess.
Note that I’m of the school that you should give the bare minimum of info and fuck CPR, you did a mag dump cause that’s what every single cop does when his life is threatened. Good enough for the boys in blue, good enough for you.
Perhaps performing CPR on a sucking chest wound was meant to finish the job.
I, too, have questions about the efficacy of CPR in the case of a chest wound.
It was very effective. This Aspiring Rapper who was in the process of turning his life around will no longer reoffend, He changed in a matter of minutes from a dirtbag to a pillar of his community and a mainstay of his family, and they can now talk at the Wednesday night bible study class he helped at about how he’s in the arms of Jesus.
My thought exactly. When you want to APPEAR to be doing the right thing, but…
Proper technique is important. Start standing. Place one foot on dirtbag’s chest. Start compressions. Between each compression, bend at the waist and blow as hard as you can.
As John Farnam would say, the perp was “DRT”. Dead, right there.
I think there was a Donald E. Westlake short story (not a Dortmunder story) in which a perp had been shot in the chest and one of the police detectives involved said, “You don’t look so good”, and began performing CPR on him. He had to use the perp’s hat to control the geyser of blood, but he persevered, and the Coroner announced upon his arrival that the guy was as empty as could be and he’d have to go into his spleen to get a blood sample. As Teetotaler, fka Coffeeman implied, He should have thought ahead just a little.
