Gotta say that I never thought I’d see the day when Virginia turned into Illinois:
A bill banning AR-15s and other popular semiautomatic rifles, as well as magazines holding more than 15 rounds of ammunition, cleared the Virginia legislature Monday and is headed to Gov. Abigail Spanberger’s (D) desk.
The legislation, SB 749, states that “importing, selling, purchasing, or transferring a prohibited firearm would be a Class 1 misdemeanor,” Ammoland News noted.
It also “restricts the sale or transfer of certain large-capacity magazines defined in the statute.”
WRIC reported that SB 749 also bans a number of semiautomatic shotguns and certain semiautomatic, centerfire pistols.
SB 749 takes effect July 1, 2026.
So to sum up: the party of Thomas Jefferson has passed an un-Constitutional gun control law in Jefferson’s home state.
Note that this does not effect existing owners of said Eeeevil Implements Of Death:

…but I bet that whatever the numbers of those AR owners are at present, there are going to be quite a few more before July 1, 2026.
And in the future, there’s going to be some serious traffic congestion every time there’s a gun show in West Virginia or North Carolina.

The only silver lining in this dark cloud is that as more states pass this utter fucking bullshit, maybe just maybe more lawsuits will come about than there already are (and there are many already) and maybe the Supreme Court will take a case on weapons bans and magazine size bans and hopefully if they do overturn this violation of rights.
This shit is going to keep spreading until either the supremes overturn it or perhaps one day it might be a reason of many that sparks the next civil war.

I used to live in MA (just south of Nashua, NH). I now live in IL and am well aware of the pain you feel. For more than three years, we’ve been subjected to the foul turd which is PICA – the IL version of the AWB. PICA is right out of the Bloomberg handbook, with a couple of minor tweaks. But wait .. there’s more … IL Senate Bill SB2279 which puts a limitless “license” tax on manufacturers wanting to sell here, and fines FFLs $10,000 per event for any transfer which falls outside of SB2279. F*cking sucks rancid monkey ass.
For now I’m stuck here due to family, job etc. Maybe an early retirement has me moving elsewhere , like South Carolina. Time will tell.

About the Representative Republic thing, that’s quaint old American history. At this point. As is becoming increasingly apparent by the Senate circus surrounding the SAVE Act, we are ruled by people who all got rich serving the elites and corporate interests. The Democrats actually tell us what they are doing, half (or more) of the Republicans tell us they are fighting them while going along with it all. When I renewed mine last time a few years ago I got a call that they don’t have my fingerprints and I need to go in to get prints taken again. Only appointments available were during the work day of course
I asked when I went – what happened to my prints on file?
The lady was polite but dumb. She says I maybe never had prints on file. I said really? I’ve had them taken three fucking times already.
Then she said oh we must have lost them.
The last 2 times the prints were taken digitally. How the fuck do they lose them?

With the disgusting growth of the size of the Federal government starting with the *spit*New Deal*spit, the number of Federal agencies, the number of Federal buildings, and the number of federal employees in them who also require housing and related infrastructure, not to mention the leeches sucking off that enormous Federal tit – lobbyists, lawyers and contractors – DC now extends from Loudoun County, Virginia 50 miles west of DC to Annapolis, Maryland 50 miles east of DC, to Frederick, Maryland 40 miles north of DC, and south 50 miles to Fredericksburg, Virginia. The mostly Federal Government dependent population of this Northern Virginia part of the state has increased 74% in thirty years and now has more than 33% of Virginia’s population. They vote their pocketbooks, and are also infected with the DC Swamp Fever, a disease that makes its carriers think they’re the smartest people in the country.
By the way – Loudoun County, which ~ 30 years ago was rural farm and horse country, is now highly developed with sprawling malls and Beigevilles to house the Federal leeches. It has become the wealthiest county in the USA, surpassing even the wealthy counties of California, New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The latter fact speaks to me about the magnitude of runaway Feral Government waste and corruption. If I were King for a Month, I’d incorporate all of Northern Virginia back into DC and take away their Congressional representation and Virginia votes.

Massachusetts sent out letters to every law abiding license to carry older a few years back. Saying bump stocks and binary triggers are illegal and you must turn any in you already own.
I heard in the news in the entire state less than a dozen were collected.

Zastava has a nice deal on steel MP70 mags–10 for $188 and maybe a little less if they float you a coupon. They claim they’re Serbian army turn ins, but all mine were NIB and pristine. I like outfitting my Serbian tool with Serbian accessories–it just seems right. They’re poly mags are good to.
It was a real chore burning up 7.62×39 rounds in my bolt action CZ 527; the ZPAPMP70 spits ’em out like a Pez dispenser.
