I Had A Dream

…but it wasn’t anything like Martin Luther King’s, or ABBA’s dream, nor about Joe Hill (no link because Commies), and sadly, it wasn’t about Cass Elliott.

No, I dreamed that a wealthy Reader (who looked a lot like Ginger Baker, FFS) offered to buy me three guns, with the caveat that they couldn’t be guns I’d owned before, nor any old guns at all — they could only be new guns.

At least it wasn’t cars, because then I’d have been in real trouble.

Anyway, I woke up without having made any choices, but the dream has kinda stuck with me all day.  And being prevented from getting a gun that I’ve owned before makes the list really short, because… well, you know.

So after some considerable thought, here they are, the top 3 guns I’d like to receive as a gift:

1 – Dan Wesson Valor (.45 ACP)

Some may consider this a cheat (because the 1911 is old, and I’ve owned several in the past);  in my defense, however, I’ve never owned a pocket 1911, nor anything made by Dan Wesson.  But I’d love to, and this one makes my bang-switch-actuator itch.  Badly.

2 – Ruger No. 1-S Medium (9.3x62mm)

Never owned a No. 1, nor any rifle in the venerable 9.3x62mm.  I would even consider going on an(other) African hunt (but with Doc Russia and Mr. Free Market) if I could take one of these.

3 –  A.H. Fox FE 20ga (as made new by Connecticut Shotgun Mfg. Company)

This beauty ticks all the Kim Boxes (side-by-side, double trigger, straight stock, 30″ barrels) and if the Dan Wesson was disqualified because rules, I’d just get a matched pair.  And then I’d head off to join Mr. FM in Dorset later in the year, you betcha…

Anyone else had a dream like this one?

  1. All excellent choices. The Fox guns are a trouble free design and Connecticut Shotgun builds them better than the originals. I shoot clays with a Fox from 1919 and it just keeps going and going.
The No.1 and 9.3×62 are both classics and with them you could hunt anything.
And I have nothing but admiration for the 1911 pistol. May a wealthy benefactor bless you.

  2. No second chance at guns you’ve owned before but had to part with, or any old guns at all? That’s not generosity, that’s taunting.

    Man, that’s just mean!

  3. 1) Smith & Wesson Model 41 with all the bells and whistles. Yes, there have been .22lr firearms in cupboard but this is one that I’d really like to add to my stable.

2)7mm-08 bolt rifle from a good manufacturer. I think the 30-06 and other 30s will start beating me up at some point. A more mild cartridge might be in order at some point. 6.5×55 might be in order. Dunno the brand but CZ, Mauser, and such do look very appealing. The rifle with the mannlicher stock you posted the other day might be a contender. A Long Range rifle sure is tempting but around here we just don’t have a place to really put such a rifle through its paces. 200yard ranges I can find. I can even find a 400yard range but….. more fees for membership and then come certain restrictions.

    3) Gotta be something new so the Smith & Wesson 27 is out. I d prefer an older one with checkering, gorgeous bluing and such. This is tough. Maybe an AR or some other MSR since they are banned here in the People’s Democratic Republic of Excessive Taxation and Over Regulation.

  4. Browning Lever Rifle BLR chambered in .270, Ruger Redhawk in .357 and a Magnum Research Big Fine Revolver BFR in 454 Casull. Nothing I’ve owned before but definitely something I’d want, at least for free.

  5. Ohio Ordnance Works 1918A3-SLR, Benelli Over/under model #10700, and S&W M&P 5.7.
The 1918A3-SLR is a BAR clone in 30-06. I would also like to have 30 magazines.
Benelli 12 gauge is what I consider the one of the finest double barrels out there.
    S&W M&P 5.7 looks interesting.

  6. That Dan Wesson is a beaut! I own a Kimber Compact CDP (highly modified) but that is a 4″ bushingless bull barrel. A quarter inch does not sound like much, but the Commander with the full size frame has always been hugely popular and I’ve never owned a version. Not sure about the bobtail treatment from an esthetic perspective, but it does make it a better contender for concealed carry. The grips are GOREjuss.
