And about time, too. Apparently, some old guy took offense at a younger man’s refusal to stand up during the national anthem at Wrigley Field, and when the little asshole refused to get to his feet, Our Hero gave him a quick clip to the back of the head.
Yeah, yeah, First Amendment rights were violated etc. etc. I don’t care, and nor should anyone else.
Lesson for the punk kid. If you didn’t want to stand during the anthem’s singing — and I’ll leave it to y’all to judge the quality of the performance thereof, a topic for another time — all you had to do was stay out of the stadium (e.g. while buying a beer and/or hot dog) and not be a dick.
As for Our Hero: good on you, Gramps. We need a lot more of this activity, because FFS somebody’s got to do it.
Note: the smack on the head got the little shit to stand up, and nobody in the immediate area came to his defense either. Which is also as it should be.
If memory serves correctly, the First Amendment protects individuals from the state, not from other individuals. If one chooses to behave like a boor, one should not be surprised to receive a lesson in manners. I hope the lesson-giver gets a season ticket from the stadium as a thank-you.
