A letter excerpt from my Granddaddy Irvine:
Nov 13, 1918, somewhere in France… (a muddy hill overlooking Sedan)
Dear Mother, …..
I suppose you heard about the big event two days ago. The French made a really big thing of it, but most Americans shrugged and just said “Well, that’s good.” After the hell I’ve been through steadily since last February, I hold you and Pop much dearer to me now than ever before. It sure does make a fellow think.
Problem is, hardly anyone under 35 thinks. McCrae’s cry “Take up our quarrel with the foe:…” in the USA is moot when the texting cabbage heads full of mush are asked, for example, who was the foe or who was the President during WWII, they’re likely to shrug their shoulders in ignorance or blurt something like “I dunno, Mexico? JFK? ” And forget about WWI. Most of the Texting Zombies Tribe don’t even know in what century it happened.
Damn the government schools and the media for erasing our heritage and history, damn the Leftists who run them, and damn the parents who let them do it.
double damn ’em all
all the male teachers I ever knew became teachers to avoid the Army
and they passed on their fear (and it was nothing more than fear – a fear of dying which they will do in time, without the honor of being known as a veteran) by erasing honor and respect: especially for our nation for our elders
RIP my uncle Lt. Col AH W-I who died a few weeks ago.
