  1. It is not an unfamiliar argument here in the States regarding Home Schooling.

    Because a kid being educated enough, to look someone in the eye, shake hands, be respectful, and pass a College entrance exam at 14, makes the Public Education system look bad.

    Enter the excuses, the shit-talking, the jokes about “they’re not Socialized” I guess meaning the kid ain’t doing meth yet.

    And the attempts to legally crush it, at least in states where Unions have control. Better the younkers be drooling, uncompetitive, idiots (who incidentally vote D, or rely on Union protection) than a School Teacher/Administrator be exposed as incompetent.

    Fortunately the legal attempts to crush it have been hit or miss, so the bastards are forced to use social pressure instead.

And the masses of useful idiots, those who always vote by brand and have never turned away from the major media “news” purveyors, look at you when you mention home schooling as if you proposed leaving the kids at home all day long with computer games and whatever Fagins would appear on the Internet when they momentarily tire of computer games. Even the “highly functioning” parents who have been successful enough to live in the same zip codes they grew up in think the same way, because they know they won’t take the time to actually raise their children themselves to be better people and citizens than what the public schools in those same zip codes can produce.

      Home school is more than trying to do it all themselves; within the group of parents all wishing to improve on government monopoly school someone is good enough at math, another at English and essay writing, and there are modules and curriculae to help them along. But no, they’d rather believe that Home Schooling means leaving every family alone to teach whatever crack-brained fantasies the adults who were indoctrinated by the government and failed to notice they haven’t overcome that indoctrination believe Home Schoolers will teach their children.

      1. I attend a church with a lot of home-schooled kids. The reason the parents home schooled were obvious. What was also obvious was that at 13 the kids were already little adults, could hold a decent conversation, most of them started college early, they were remarkably well adjusted good kids.

        Married into a family where my in-laws were Public Skool teachers. Hooo boy, the excuses, the snotty put-downs, the resentment, it was pathetic. But it all emerged from the loss of control, and the fact that their pupils could barely read at 15 (they did know how to install a condom, not that they ever did) whilst the homeschool kids were applying for University at 14, shone a light on the substandard nature of Public Education (a teat which they were firmly nursing on).

  2. I used to think it was just about control and didn’t really ask myself why. Its not control just for the sake of control its as much about graft and patronage as anything.

    1. Substandard people staying in power. We in the west seem to be adopting practices from the heathen world that should be serving as a cautionary example instead of a roadmap.

  3. Some of the oldest Universities in Europe were not instituted by the King, which would be the equivalent of the grasping, corrupt government we have today, but were started by associations of would-be students. Many of those universities are still in existence, and still administered by committees and boards overseen by directors appointed by the student body.
