My guess: to make it feel less like you’re driving a toaster oven? Suggested new name for the thing: Taycan’t. And of course, this “new” feature doesn’t come cheaply, so say hello to “price increase”.
Wouldn’t accept one as a gift.
Now as for the real thing (Cayman), however:

I would. I’d drive it for a day or 2, just see what all the hoopla is about. Then trade it in for what I REALLY want.

But I agree with you. It’s a silly option. I’ve haven’t driven the new electric Cayman, but I have driven the tycan and I can assure you that is every bit a Drivers Porsche. It certainly[ doesn’t need a fake electric Shift / stutter to add to the feel. It is a 4 door rocket ship.
Just took delivery of my “new to me”. Porsche (still have the GT3. ) it’s a Plug -in Hybrid that will do 30 miles of electric only around Town trips. But before you laugh you should know that with twist of the controll knob it’s also a 750 hp Twin Turbo V8 SUV that will do 186 mph. …. And it has the 20 second “Push to Pass”. Overbost option.
Some Porsche options are just silly marketi\ng gimmicks. But the performance side of the family is still in control. And ready to deliver to it’s loyal customers the type of performance we expect from our Porsches
I have a buddy in Germany that has a 20 year old base 911. He has let me borrow it a few times. His car is not super quick but it handles like mad. It is hard to imagine a stupid quick electric Porsche.
