Beaten To The Punch

I got this meme by email from some organization (which I don’t know, and from which I never asked for communication, don’t get me started):

I was going to blog about it, and offer to pay a crisp $50 bill to anyone who could find me a large McDonalds fries order for $1.99 anywhere in these United States.

Then this guy did a complete takedown, complete with actual fact-finding instead of just snark.

Damn.  Go and read it anyway, it’s brilliant.

  1. If I’m reduced to eating from McD’s, healthy has already been chunked out the window. Filling my belly with greasy salty goodness is the goal.

That said, there are at least a dozen independent gourmet burger joints in my area now, all of which make the traditional chains obsolete, except for pricing. Burger and onion rings set me back $25 for one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten. But DAMN. $25?? Fuck me if that’s even a once a month treat. I did get a cheaper Dairy Queen burger a few weeks back. DQ used to be great. Not anymore, I could barely eat it. New management, worse food. And for that I paid $15. Fuck me. In any event, I’ll go back to eating bugs and not owning anything now.

  2. There are several vendors of cut fresh fruit in my area. The bright colors of the fruit in clear plastic containers sitting on ice are very attractive. The consumer feels like they are getting a good deal because they are buying from an individual operating a cart or a roadside stand. Plus, fruit = good, right? Well, the Health Dept. is after them because of, among other things, a total lack of sanitatary practices that has resulted in people getting sick from eating the fruit. So much for the “healthy choice”.

  3. ignore the food nazis. In a month or two the findings in their research papers gets reversed.

  4. why would I want to live longer without steak etc just to eat more kale and tofu?
