By Any Other Name, Part Deux

Let’s assume that your name was Mahmood El Snaipah, and you wanted to bring attention to the Holy Cause Of Islam by orchestrating attacks on critical energy facilities by targeting an oil pipeline in South Dakota and an electrical substation in North Dakota.

Can you spell T-E-R-R-O-R-I-S-M, children?  Of course you can.

Then there’s this asshole:

Cameron Smith, a 50-year-old Canadian national, used a high-powered rifle, to inflict significant damage to both a transformer and pipeline equipment, resulting in widespread disruption of electrical services and interrupting pipeline operations.

But he’s not a Muzzie terrorist;  he’s an eco-terrorist, you see:

Smith told the court his actions were driven by frustration after years of trying to raise awareness of climate change through lawful means.

… so his behavior must be excused?

Not bloody likely:

Smith has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for orchestrating attacks on critical energy facilities in the United States.

Now we come to the boo-hoo part:

He said he chose remote locations to avoid harming people, and he argued for a lesser sentence, citing his autism and Crohn’s disease.

“This is tantamount to a life sentence, and I don’t think that’s right,” Smith said. He expressed doubt he would receive adequate medical care while incarcerated.

And the takeaway quote:

“I won’t survive this,” Smith said.

I hope you shit yourself to death.  Painfully.  Over the next twenty-odd years.

  1. I don’t see a problem with this sentence other than it doesn’t mention opportunities for parole. When these criminals are sentenced to 25 years, they should serve the entire sentence. If they behave, they get out as scheduled. If they misbehave, they should serve additional time in prison.

    1. “U.S. District Judge Daniel Traynor sentenced Smith to two consecutive 12 ½-year terms, far above federal sentencing guidelines that recommended 3 ½ to 4 ¼ years per count.”

He’d need to be paroled twice.

  2. How did a Canadian get a ‘high powered rifle’. Aren’t they illegal and were confiscated?

  3. How about a little bit of restitution?
    He destroyed equipment, right?
Why should other people be forced to pay for the damage?
Don’t give me that “blood from a turnip” excuse.
The IRS gets blood out of turnips all day long and twice on Sundays.

Here’s what that asshole looks like:

    1. “Cameron Smith, 50, was also ordered Monday to pay more than $2.1 million in restitution, the Bismarck Tribune reported, as well as fines totaling $250,000. He faces deportation after his release.”

  4. Given that he’s foreign, and targeted critical infrastructure, it seems like an act of war. He should be thankful they aren’t constructing a gallows behind the court house.

  5. Also note the damage that one man, with one rifle, can do when properly motivated. I doubt there’s been any increase in surveillance / protection of critical infrastructure due to this.

  6. I’m sure that I can’t be the only one who is sick to bleeding death of autism being treated as some kind of magical “get out of consequences free” card. He claims that he targeted infrastructure in remote areas so as to avoid harming people. Well Sparky, when you attack the electrical grid in northern states in wintertime, you ARE going to harm people. I live in a modest townhome that has a gas furnace but the blower is, of course, electric. If I lose power in July it’s inconvenient and people like me may have to throw away everything in the fridge. If I lose power in January or February, people like me can die.

Rot in hell you Canadian asshole.

    1. I’m with you on the excuses. Ram his rifle up his worthless ass and pull the trigger. Bury them ensemble.
