From Da Church:
Amid a mounting debate in America over the constitutionality of gun control, Cardinal Joseph Tobin of Newark has entered the fray with a different argument: That people should voluntarily forgo their Second Amendment rights for the betterment of society.
“I honestly believe it is the best thing we can do to change the culture of violence that threatens us today,” Tobin said.
“Let’s voluntarily set aside our rights in order to witness the truth that only peace and never violence, is the way to build a free society that is lived concretely in our homes, our neighborhoods, our communities, our nation and our world,” he said.
Tell you what, Yeronner: you introduce unicorns into your liturgy first, because that’s where your “never violence” wishful thinking leads to.
And “setting aside rights” never ends well — as the revocation of the First Amendment’s freedom of worship would show you, after about half a second’s thought.
Just… shuddup, you self-righteous asshole.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to the range.
I’ma get rid of my fire extinguisher in order to put an end to fires.
I’m gonna throw away all of our spoons and lose some weight!
Seriously, how do these people become so stupid?
Tobin should be caged down in Tyrone’s neighborhood for a few months until reality sets in for him.
The USA does not have a general “gun violence” problem.
It has a demographically specific gun violence problem.
It has a demographically specific
gunviolence problem.Never agree with the gun bigots bullshit that guns are the problem, not violence.
God gave me a unique and valuable gift as well as responsibility to protect my family. God also gave us the ability to reason, not you, and invent things. Cardinal Tobin and Pope Frank can pound sand.

Those who beat their swords into plowshares, will plow for those who do not.
This is a perfect example of why Sola Scriptura is necessary to keep church leaders from substituting their own biases for God’s word. And what is God’s word on the subject? Jesus told His followers “if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one” (Luke 22:36)
This priest should maybe go back and do some reading.
Whenever I see or hear a member of any religion step up to begin to tell me anything about how to live my life outside of my church, synagogue, or mosque, I resist the desire to tell them to sit down and shut up. Your job, Your Eminence Joseph Cardinal Tobin, is to save my soul and elect the next Pope. Since the Church did such a notable job with the crusades, please allow me to defend my home, family, and treasures.
Does the Cardinal have a bodyguard? Will he be voluntarily setting that aside?
Because the world was absent violence before the invention of guns? Is he an idiot or does he think his parishioners are?
I’ll take “BOTH” for $400, Alex.
Absolute pacifism contradicts 2000 years of Church history. Saints Theodore, George, Louis, James Matamoros, Jeanne d’Arc, and innumerable Templars and Knights of Saint John of the Hospital beg to differ with his Eminence.
As a husband and father, God gave my wife and children into my care and keeping, to protect and defend, up to and including giving my life for them, if necessary. Firearms give me an honest chance to do that successfully. Owning a firearm is a means to achieve a divinely given moral charge to protect my family, faith, country and myself.
It is worth noting that Jesus was also, in fact, not telling them to have swords for the threat of crime, but for the threat of a government that hates God.
