Being Played?

I enjoy reading Ann Coulter’s posts, by and large, because she’s so often correct despite her terminology and manner — and let’s be honest, getting fired by the milquetoasts at NRO has to be some kind of a badge of honor, right?

And yes, she occasionally gets out of control, but then again, so do I.

Here’s her latest opinion:

A month ago, things were looking bad for the Democrats.

Immediately after Trump announced for president last November, he may as well have gone into the witness protection program. Even Fox News cut away from his announcement speech. He had to have dinner with a noted Hitler enthusiast to get any attention, and, when he spoke at CPAC in February, the room was half-empty.

Looming before them was the threat from Florida: Gov. Ron DeSantis. He was beating Trump in the presidential polls without even announcing. He’d scored victory after victory against Democrats and won his reelection bid — in a purple state! — by 20 points, despite attacks from Trump.

Against DeSantis’ smarts and energy, the Democrats would be running President Senile Dementia and a vice president whose sole credentials are that she is black and a woman.

They had only one hope: Get Trump the nomination.

…and her argument is quite compelling.

Finally, I know that the bony Ann is a New England blueblood and therefore despises Trump.  But her assessment of his actual achievements is quite accurate, and her portrayal of the Republicans as The Stupid Party is more than accurate:  it’s inside the X-ring at the very intersection of the X.

In this, she’s of a kind with the always-irritating but maddeningly-correct David Cole at Taki’s.  Dealing with both of them is an object lesson in ignoring the messenger and concentrating on the message.

  1. Ann has the distinction of being the first, back in 2015, of announcing her belief that Trump would become prez that Nov. There’s video out there of her announcing it on some news show and all the other people there were in numbstruck disbelief.

Then, after Trump was (illegally) ousted Ann seemed to have turned on him and has become rather vindictive toward him. Kind of strange.

On a side note, I have seen several articles that claim that she and “JJ”, yeah that negro dood that was in that popular TV show back in the 70’s – can’t remember the name cause I never watched it, have been an item for decades. I think I seen him recently in one of those irritating “medicare” commercials, and he looks like a cadaver.

  2. Ann always struck me as the type that deliberately picks an outrageous position just for the attention she gets from it. But hey, it apparently worked for her, she made an entire career out of it.

When Trump was a long-shot and nobody thought he had a chance, she was all Trump Trump Trump. Then when he won, MAGA was a thing, and he was popular she went 180 degrees the other way and became anti-Trump. Granted, I have a lot of problems with the way Trump handled things while in office, but she went overboard as her normal MO.

She just reminds me of my oldest son who claimed to be a Bernie Bro just to see out reaction to it. My wife freaked, I recognized it for what it was. Bullshit to get attention.

As for that David Cole, if I remember correctly, he’s the one who denies any cheating went on during the election and rants that the J6 people deserve what they are getting. I read some of his stuff but he’s dead wrong in addition to being irritating.

  3. Ann C is a smart woman who also happens to be a narcissistic attention whore who, when looking in the mirror, sees Trump looking back and hates herself for it. She’ll appear on any TV show, and say anything, that generates another 90-second hit on prime time. She needed Trump to keep her relevant, but when he demurred, she turned on him.
Ann is all about Ann. I would only refer to her for insult material. As to David Cole, he is a bomb throwing holocaust fabulist/revisionist, a serial liar and a fraud.

On top of that, his dad got Elvis hooked on Demerol. So Zero Fucks in the inventory reserved for either one of them.

  4. Why does everybody believe SlowJoe will be there when the ballots start to be cast?

More than likely, the imbecile will stumble badly during the campaign, immolate himself during the debates, and resign from the race at the last moment. And waiting in the wings will be pretty-boy Gavin or the latest iteration of a Kennedy, fresh, unsullied, and ready to take the reins mere weeks before the elections. The Dems have done that many, many times before to great effect.

  5. I respectfully dissent.

I haven’t read Ann’s columns or listened to her since she turned on President Trump.

At this point, though (and irrespective of what you think about President or who the 2024 GOP nominee should be, she’s little more than GOP journalistic roadkill.

True, she’s not at the horse manure/road-apple level as George Will or William Krystol, but she has long since bartered away her credibility and has completely marginalized herself.

I’m sure her prodigious humorist and wordsmithing capabilities remain intact, I just quit reading her columns.

  6. I would say the biggest attraction for a DeSantis Presidency is the possibility of two terms!

  7. A Trump/DeSantis Admin would be quite effective if DJT gave RDS the same level of respect and authority he endowed Jared with. Trump’s dynamism, working with RDS’s polished approach could set a lot of the Federal Gov’t straight and set us up for a 12-yr span of effective leadership and governance (or even longer depending on who RDS picked for his VP).
