Two Old Guys Chewing The Fat

…about revolvers, and what they love to shoot.

What’s so different about this one?  It’s Ken Hackathorn and Bill Wilson.

“Shooting should be fun.”

That episode was Ken’s favorite guns to shoot.  Here’s what Bill likes to shoot.

“Every gun guy should own a Model 19 Combat Magnum.”

And then if you want still more Hackathorn and Wilson, here’s an earlier episode, about 1911s.

“Rarely does the capacity of the gun have anything to do with the outcome… unless you’re a really bad shot.”  (Although it should be said that Bill Wilson himself carries a Wilson SFX-9 with a 10-round mag — and a 15-round backup mag.  And nobody could call Bill Wilson a bad shot.)

I could listen to these two gun guys talk all day.  And in putting this post together, I did.

I don’t want to die because of the difference between “rare” and “never”.

  2. Well whaddya know, my pistol safe contains among other things a well used S&W Model 19 Combat Magnum. It shoots remarkably well and I treasure, as I do all my firearms.

  4. I’m a yuge fan of steel framed semi-autos for the pure joy of turning money into noise. And poly-nines (like my stable of Glocks) for social occasions.

That being said, Hackathorn ain’t wrong; “Every gun guy should (definitely) own a Model 19 Combat Magnum.” Wonderful revolvers. I was privileged to spend an afternoon behind a tuned 19 at a PPS fun match. As a result, I’ve been on the lookout for a nice 19, or her stainless sister, the 66.

    1. BTW: A Ruger GP100 Match Champion is a pretty damn good substitute for the S&W 19/ 66. And now that they’re making them in 10mm — oh, baby…

      1. From what I understand though, they don’t exactly like clipping .40 S&W in place of the 10mm shells for cheaper practice. Not with the factory moon clips at least.
I have not heard this criticism with regards to the S&W 610, at least not yet.
