Of Course They Will

Here we go:

More than 300 District of Columbia National Guardsmen will be in Washington this week to help support police officers patrolling protests scheduled by supporters of President Donald Trump this week.

“We have received confirmation that the D.C. National Guard will be assisting the Metropolitan Police Department, beginning tomorrow through the life cycle of this event,” Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee III told reporters at a press conference on Jan. 4.

National Guard personnel will be assisting police officers from Jan. 5 to 7 with crowd management and traffic control, freeing officers “to focus on anyone who’s intent on instigating, agitating, or participating in violence in our city,” he added.

Mayor Muriel Bowser, a Democrat, revealed she’d requested National Guard help in a Dec. 31 letter to District of Columbia National Guard Commanding General William Walker.

Bowser said guardsmen wouldn’t be armed and wouldn’t be involved in domestic surveillance, searches, or seizures of Americans.

Damn right they won’t be.  That would be un-Constitutional, not that the godless Socialists ever cared much about that.

As long as Mayor Trotsky keeps the Guard hanging around the inevitable crowd of Commie agitators (that would be the BLM / Pantifa ilk), there shouldn’t be any violence.  I’m not holding my breath.

I just wish I could be there.  I do plan on watching it on TV while I sharpen my M4 bayonet, whispering, “Soon, soon, my Precioussss…”

    1. Latest rumor per DC Carry is Muriel has banned all CCW by peons 5-7 January, even outside of the prohibited ares.

      1. Then she’s got a lot of work to do. While she ironically put out a tweet stating that the Second Amendment is banned in any place the First Amendment is being demonstrated, DC law is quite specific on what is required by the government to enact such a ban including setting up a signed perimeter.

        (A) The law enforcement agency provides notice of the designated area by the presence of signs, law enforcement vehicles or officers acting as a perimeter, or other means to make the designated area of the demonstration obvious;

        (B) The District or federal government has provided notice prohibiting the carrying of pistols along or within a demonstration route or designated area in advance of the event, if possible, and by posted signage along a demonstration route or designated area; or

        (C) The licensee has been ordered by a law enforcement officer to leave the designated area and the licensee has not complied with the order; or

  1. Re: “Bowser said guardsmen wouldn’t be armed and wouldn’t be involved in domestic surveillance, searches, or seizures of Americans.”

I am all for them not being involved in domestic surveillance, searches or seizures but F*** unarmed all to hell. We should not be sending the NG or any other ARMED service to McDonald’s unarmed much less to pull security someplace where armed criminal action and such is likely (and if it is not likely then you do not need the NG there).

  2. It certainly appears as though BowWow Bowser is pushing all the proper buttons to instigate what will become known as the 21st Century Civil Insurrection
    just my crystal ball

  3. The thing to remember is that Bowser can claim whatever, but USNG don’t report to the mayor. They report to the governor, and since DC doesn’t have a governor, they report directly to the President.

I personally wonder if the USNG is showing up to keep an eye on the protestors or if they are there to keep MPD and Capitol Police in line.

    1. I was in the DC Nat’l Guard (163rd MP Bn) during the race and “peace” riots in DC in the late 60’s. Rules and regs probably changed since then, but on occasion we were sworn as auxiliary police and were armed to the teeth and could detain, but not arrest, law breakers. We had to call the DC Police who would then come and make the official arrest and carry away the perps. However, the idiot mayor and the WaPo made a point of saying “the soldiers are using restraint and do not have ammunition.” It followed we were occasionally challenged when making a stop; e.g., “Fuck you, I ain’t scared a you, you got no bullets.” An immediate display of 7.62 NATO or 12 ga OO buck in an M-14 or Winchester Model 12 riot gun changed their mind. They quickly assumed “the position.”
Our ROEs said no shoot for property, but shoot anyone tossing a firebomb into a building or vehicle. AFAIK, nobody was shot by a troop because just like today, the %$^&%$ Dems let the looters run wild for ~24 hours before calling us, and the situation was beyond control other than protecting fireman from the Pantifa and BLM of those days.
On many more other occasions, I think much like what is described for tomorrow, the police were the armed force, and we Guardsmen freed them up for that by being detailed around major intersections for traffic cop duty in place of the police. For major events, we always had a heavily armed “reaction company” on standby near ready to roll jeeps and trucks. On one occasion, a bunch of antiwar hippie types backed four of our unarmed traffic cop guys into a recessed store opening and they radioed for help; the reaction company swiftly dealt with the scragglies in a hail of CS gas and rifle butts.

  4. To me, this is ultimately the result of post-modernity’s last gasp attempts to create something it cannot, a functioning society. Those on the left and those on the right don’t even seem to perceive reality in ways that are even vaguely similar anymore. The left seems to embrace the idea that the plural of anecdote is truth and no matter how much objective reality invades their safe space, they will hold to their subjective narratives at all costs. And I’m hard pressed to find any aspect of our culture that isn’t in serious decline because it is corrupted by the left’s foolishness.
