Business Decision

I love to read bullshit like this:

John Wick 4 trailer sets up battle between Keanu Reeves and Bill Skarsgard: ‘Only one can survive’

Uh huh.  Like any movie studio is going to kill off the hero of a very successful “franchise”.  I can just visualize the management’s response to some young dimwit suggesting that action:

Let’s face it:  when it comes to art, business always wins.  Always.

Afterthought:  I watched the first Wick movie, hated it with a passion (actually never made it to the end) so I’ve never watched any of the sequels.  The above post has more to do with the marketing thereof than anything related to the movie itself.

  1. At some point in a film franchise several things start to happen. The star wants too much money or gets tired of playing the same character and/or wants to branch out and ” do other Projects”. The special effects get out of control and too expensive to top the last film. the audience and revenue are declining, and the cost are going up so the films are at higher risk of being no longer profitable. The producers want to do a ” Prequel” with a new young ( cheaper ) actor.

Result – Kill-off or retire the star. Besides even if they Kill him off they can also miraculously resurrect him.

  2. We watched the first one and my wife didn’t like it. I could barely tolerate it. Thousands of 1/2 second edits, in the dark, and everybody whispering all the time. Pretty much like all action flicks of the past 30 years. They require too much contribution by the viewer and frankly, after a half hour I am exhausted. And don’t get me started on the amateur acting, stupid dialog, and thin storylines. Hollywood has long run out of ideas.

We only watch TV at suppertime and tend to stream old stuff from the 40’s and 50’s, TV shows, movies. I can’t really tolerate much else. Even the suppertime staples like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune have become intolerable with their focus on the regular inclusion of freaks of nature.

And don’t get me started on the commercials slammed with negro’s, cucked white boys, Camp LeJeune, Medicare, prescription drugs, plastic chinese trinketry, way over priced new vehicles, and over the top popular restaurant meals bulging with chemicals of unknown origin. More and more we’re leaving all that trash behind. Who needs it?
