Stupid People

Following on from the essay above, here’s another group of stupid people:

Too many BBC journalists ‘lack understanding of basic economics’ which is creating a risk to its impartiality, an independent review has found.

A report commissioned by the broadcaster said the corporation’s economics reporting is guilty of ‘uninformed groupthink’ and dominated too much by the Westminster version of events.

More like the Kremlin- or Beijing version, but that’s a topic for another time.

It added there was a ‘lack of confidence’ to challenge mainstream arguments, along with at times a ‘temptation to hype’ in this area of reporting.

Yup.  Add ignorance to “if it bleeds, it leads”, and you have pretty much encapsulated all journalism, not just BBC journalism.

This is one reason why when a Socialist politician states that a tax rate reduction is going to “cost” money, it’s solemnly reported as fact when it’s actually not only economically illiterate, but historically refutable.

“It must be true, I read it in the paper”  has as much credence as “it must be true, I read it on the Internet”.  Depending on the topic, maybe even less.

And we won’t even talk about journalists on the topic of firearms, where their ignorance is positively Bidenesque.

Four Down, Six To Go

Okay, maybe three and seven out of the ten listed.  (I read Undaunted Courage, about the Lewis & Clark expedition, not Lewis’s account, but that should count for something.)

Of the others, Storm of Steel  impressed me the most.  Ernst Jünger must be the greatest soldier who ever lived, if for no other reason that he survived all four years of WWI in the trenches of the Western Front, not as some staff flunky or quartermaster’s orderly, but as a front-line rifleman.  And not a whiny little brat like Remarque‘s Paul, either:  just a man of steel — which could have been the title of his book, come to think of it.

I’ve been wanting to read Last Train  for years, but just never got around to it.  Ditto Death Company, if for no other reason than to fill in the many gaps of my knowledge of the Italian Front.  Both duly ordered.

I’ll get after the rest in due course — it’s an excellent list, so thanks to the folks at Intellectual Takeout  for that.  (If they aren’t on your list of daily reads, fix that now.)

Missed A Couple

The bad 170, according to Fatboi Pritzker’s Illannoy.

This is just going to drive up the prices of Garands, M1 Carbines, ordinary SKS rifle, and so on.

That said:  it’s not gonna stop there.

The list of about 170 different semi-automatic guns now banned in Illinois could change with state police granted the authority to update the list “as needed.”

Possession of guns legally purchased before Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the measure Tuesday are grandfathered in, but owners must eventually register each weapon’s serial number. Illinois State Police are to develop the registry with gun owners required to comply by Jan. 1, 2024. Violations could be a Class 2 felony.

Bastards.

Random Gripe

Why oh why do these women keep doing this to me?

And it’s all very well to say, “Oh, if it bothers you that much, don’t open the links” — like that’s an option.

And FYI:  the pics contain links to the offending articles.  Welcome to MY world.
