Well, the People (specifically of Texas) have spoken, and there it is: democracy in action.
I guess that we’re going to get the government we deserve, now.
My only comfort is that I turn 72 in two weeks’ time, and whatever shit show arrives, I’m not long for it. I’m too old to get into “rebuilding” the fucking useless Republican Party, because they’ve proven, time and time again, that they can’t do anything decent, no matter how strong the mandate given and no matter how often we tell them what we want from them.
Right now, I’m in a mood of the deepest pessimism, politically speaking, and that’s all there is to it.
From now on, whenever something bad happens — a new state income tax, lax or no border controls (with all the consequences that this would create), implementation of eco-crazy policies (banning oilfield exploration, strangling refining with regulation, wind- and solar power generation, Europe-style gas pricing), foreign policy that sets “cooperation” (read: appeasement) as a priority, Chinese aggression unchecked, Islamism not only unchecked but welcomed, transvestite concerts to 5-year-olds in primary schools — whenever any of this happens to us, I’m just going to shrug and say, “The People voted for this; now we all get to live with it.”
As Mencken put it so succinctly: “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.”
Well, we will, you betcha.
As for me: the title of this blog is going to become all the more relevant. I’m going to sit here, in splendid isolation, and watch with sardonic amusement as the world that I came here to live in falls into the pit.
In the meantime — I mean today — I’m going to go to the range, while I still can, to test a gun to see how it behaves. Range report to follow.
Sometime back in my 40’s, my late father remarked that he could see the way the world was headed, and he was glad he wouldn’t be around to see it.
Me too, dad. Me too.
Live your lives best one can in this Zombie Apocalypse of the stupefied electorate, which can’t get fixed when the lunatic fringe are voted in by by the Angry Birds who this morning are blaming PDJT for this whitewash. Not his fault. When the SAVE Act won’t (not can’t but won’t) pass what 87% want…that’s a red flag.
Oh well…turning off the mental cesspool politics has become because it’s all baloney and needs to be put on the back bench where it belongs. Nothing changes for We The People except more headache and tax theft by the Cheats in Armani…best to ignore them and enjoy your life.
well, ending the Department of Education to return the curriculum to local decision isn’t the answer. The locals have been brainwashed and indoctrinated for 35-45 years.
It’s one election. If you’re younger then get involved and fix things at your local level and work your way up. you need to change the local government to oppose absurd expenditures and abuse of tax payer funds. Then work at the state level.
All politics is local. Start with the schools.
People vote democrat in protest against Trump’s (and those of his team, I think he’s mostly a figurehead) idiotic policies.
I had high hopes for the man, but I’d probably not have voted for any Republican in this election had I been a US citizen. I’d hopefully have been able to go for an independent, or a moderate democrat, and I’d have a very bad taste in my mouth filling out that ballot.
