According to a team from the University of Oulu, Finland, breasts may have evolved to help newborns. Human breasts sit at an elevated temperature, protecting a newborn from hypothermia. What’s more, the size and shape of the breast allows for broad contact surface – enhancing the heat transfer from mother to child.
And I always thought it was to help keep men excited and wanting to procreate. Silly me.

I’m 77, a product of the 50’s and 60’s. As a kid I crushed on Annette Funicello, in my teens it was Suzanne Pleshette and Diana Rigg. Sometime in my late teens I saw a movie with Sophia Loren on TV. I have no recollection of the movie but Sophia played a barefoot peasant woman, looking like the 3rd colorized picture you have posted. My desire for that woman was more overwhelming than anything else I’ve ever felt. I would still say that Sophia in her 40’s and 50’s was perfection.
No argument from me on that.
