…always a Commie, even at the risk of sounding hypocritical:
American unions, once wary of — or even outright hostile — to immigration because of its threat towards American wages and bargaining power, are now at the forefront of the anti-ICE protests opposing the Trump administration’s immigration crackdowns.
Since President Donald Trump took office last year, several of America’s most prominent unions, like the Service Employees International Union, United Auto Workers, and others under the AFL-CIO umbrella, have opposed deportations of illegal immigrants and other ICE operations through general strikes, protests, and workplace training.
Oftentimes, these unions partner closely with radical leftist organizations to do so, such as the radical Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), the Marxist People’s Forum, the Revolutionary Communists of America, and local chapters of the Communist Party USA, as Just the News has previously documented.
Unions under the AFL-CIO umbrella have been instrumental in organizing strikes across the country to protest Trump administration deportation operations. AFL-CIO even provides a tracking map for users to identify workers’ strikes organized by its affiliates.
So let’s see if I’ve got this right: Trump’s major foreign policy initiatives have been directed towards “reshoring” manufacturing from Asia and back into the United States. These initiatives, if successful, would create the construction of factories and the concomitant recruitment of labor forces here in the U.S., i.e. blue-collar jobs that labor unions are supposedly all about protecting.
But the unions are behind protests to send illegal immigrants — who have been instrumental in taking away blue-collar jobs from Americans and / or lowering the average wage for said jobs — back to Shitholia.
Does anyone else see the irony here?
Or should workers just start shooting their unions’ leadership?
I’ve been in both UAW & SEIU. Both are tied too close to the democrats to serve their constituents. Most of their constituents are democrats and equally obtuse about their own interests. It’s strongly ingrained in union folk that the democrats are their party and republicans are the enemy of unions and workers. The SEIU in my experience are lousy corrupt assholes. Remember they were Obamas street thugs and enforcers. I was involved with SEIU back in the mid 80’s and for some reason they couldn’t be bothered to help when the hospital I worked at was trying to break the union. They just let us get sold down the river. I was chief steward and could hardly find a union official to talk to. We were trying to negotiate a contract and the union was no help. The hospital had a law firm of professional sharks on their side of the table. we had me (a mental health worker) a cook and a maintenance guy trying to negotiate. We lost badly. My dad who was involved with SEIU elsewhere said they were notorious for getting into bed with management. I would argue that there was a time when unions served their constituents interests, it seems that now they don’t even understand how collective bargaining works.
I’ve worked for union companies as a member of management and as a union member. the Union leadership often acts in direction opposition to the workers. The Unions are too big, too bloated and too corrupt.
I was a member of the Steel Workers Union because of where I was working ( and I apparently still am a member since I continue to get their Mailings but I am no longer working there). In any case, When I retired from the company at age 73, the union did NOT help me recover the benifits they had told me I was due before I left. They sided with Managements position that I had not worked there long enough , even though there was no language in the contract to specify an amount of years of service required.
I did get a once a year lobster dinner though. …. and I never Voted the way they wanted me to.
