Welcome Expansion

Oh be still, my beating heart:

High street food chain Greggs is to open its first pub serving exclusive beers and a menu featuring its classic bakes and sausage rolls.

Just when I thought there was no reason ever to visit Britishland again, they do this to me.

Then again, this first (and so far only) Greggs-based pub is opening in Newcastle-On-Tyne, which exists in my mind simply as a railway station one passes through en route to Edinburgh.

But… beer and Greggs sausage rolls?

Back, Satan;  back, I say.

It’s just a Good Thing Greggs didn’t open their first pub in Devizes, Wilts.

The combination of steak bakes, sausage rolls and pints of Wadworth 6x… [exit, drooling]

  1. Kim, should you make it over here, remind me to introduce you to the local Whisky shop. They do tastings. Extensive tastings. And there’s a Greggs down the street.

      1. do you want to have a a few wonderful years enjoying sausage rolls, beer and whiskey or many more years on a vegan diet drinking kombucha?

        1. I resolved long ago to try to check out fast enough so as to not run up a big deficit (Zeroing out assets and debts would be a perfect resolution) but slow enough that people get used to the idea of me joining the choir invisible. In the meantime, I want to enjoy life and especially food and drink.

  2. You’ll be pleased to know that Wadworth have begun releasing 6X in mini-kegs (earlier this summer). My BIL in Wales has agreed to lay on several for my upcoming trip in October.

I don’t know if they’ll be allowed on the plane, but if they are, I’ll reserve one for you.

    1. In 1985 I took a liter and a half of Chocolate Liqueur back from Austria. It was not carbonated and in my checked luggage. The customs agent in California only said that I will have to share. Since that was at least three lifetimes ago, I have no idea what is allowed now.
