The asterisks are not there to protect the sensibilities of the readers.
People put the asterisks in to get past the algorithms that prevent them from posting.
The algorithms dump out postings with certain words in them, so people use asterisks.
The algorithms are there to make sure the hosting site does not get targeted by internet censors.
Internet censors come from many places – individuals, organizations, advertisers, government entities …

Also, those of us who do post here are typically capable of expressing ourselves using standard English (or German, French, Afrikaans) so no need for asterisks.
