Classic Beauty: Anne Bancroft

It’s kind of a pity that the Great Unwashed really only discovered Anne Bancroft as Mrs. Robinson in 1963’s The Graduate because to us classic movie lovers, there had been a whole lot to look at prior:

And yes,as well as that gorgeous face, she had all the rest:

Doing poles before it became slutty:

Then along came Mrs. Robinson, and ol’ Dustin never stood a chance:

And good grief, if ever there was the archetypal Older Woman (what we nowadays coarsely refer to as “MILFs”):

Pretty damn good for an Italian kid from the Bronx, I’d say.

  1. I worked at an industrial pharmacy while in nursing school. There was a young guy working there who I said I’d set up with a lady in my nursing school class. He was about 20-21. The girl I was going to set him up with got a boyfriend between semesters. I told my coworker this so I asked him how he felt about a December May relationship. He had no idea what I was talking about. So I suggested a Mrs Robinson situation. He again didn’t understand my meaning. Then I put this way, “how do you feel about Stifler’s Mom” making a reference to American Pie the movie. That clicked with him. Unfortunately he didn’t take me up on the offer to set him up with an older woman. His education is diminished.

  2. Mel Brooks is such a lucky bastard in so many ways. She was certainly one of the main ones.

    1. Just finished watching the new Mel Brooks Retrospective on HBO. Not only was he lucky to find and connect with Ann Bancroft but it was one of the few long lasting Hollywood marriages.
