That “86” Thing

A whole lot has been said about former FBI Chief Thug James Comey’s X-post featuring this picture, and his coy little observation:

Needless to say, this silliness found immediate favor with the Perpetually Indignant (Rightwing Division, even John Kass), who claimed that the “86” is code for “kill” or “assassinate”.

No it isn’t.

“86” means to dump or throw in the trash — in restaurant terms, it also means “not to mention (to customers)”, and back in my executive days, we used to use “86” to mean “forget about it” — e.g. “86 that idea, dummy”.

In other words, it’s a completely innocent term.  It does not mean anything sinister.

I don’t care that the .dotmil uses “86” to mean “kill”, either.  The military (and government, for that matter) has a long and storied history of using the English language to cover a whole panoply of ugly shit (e.g. “Terminate With Extreme Prejudice”), and I don’t care about any of that either.

Now far be it for me to come to the defense of that treacherous lizard Comey, but seriously?

Current FBI Director Kash Patel announced that his department is in communication with the Secret Service over Comey’s social media post “directed at President Trump” on X Thursday evening.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem added in her own X post that the DHS is investigating Comey’s post as well.

Noem appeared on Fox News Thursday night, saying she believes Comey “should be held accountable and put behind bars for this.”

“The rule of law says people like him, who issue direct threats against the president of the United States, essentially issuing a call to assassinate him, must be held accountable under the law,” she said.

FFS, grow up, you assholes.  Your reaction to this is actually in the dictionary, under the word “Overreaction”.  Get a clue, and stop being so hyper-sensitive.

This is just as bad as those foul pricks on the Left complaining about Sarah Palin’s “crosshairs” comment.  It was bullshit then, it’s bullshit now.

Yeah, I know Trump has already survived two actual assassination attempts and everyone’s hyper-sensitive about anything that might hint at another.  But wait… we’re talking about jailing someone for a fucking Twatter post?

And yet we (quite justifiably) mock the BritGov when they send the rozzers over to threaten people over Fecesbook ramblings that run afoul of the dreaded “hate speech” rules?

Fuck off, all of you — and yeah, I’m including Superhero Kash and St. Kristi here — because this is absolute bullshit.

Look, the whole “86” thing may be in poor taste;  but the last time I looked, “bad taste” is kinda protected by the First fucking Amendment.

I know, the Bill of Rights can be a somewhat inconvenient at times — the Second as much as the First, ask any gun-confiscator — but that’s the exact purpose of the Bill of Rights:  it protects us from government.

And as much as I hate to say it, that shitbird Comey gets the same protections as the rest of us, even if he himself is a prime candidate for “eighty-sixing” — i.e. should be dumped in the trash heap of history and forgotten.

Fach.

  1. Sorry Kim but for once I have to disagree, there are enough lunatics on the left that would take a shot a Trump even without such ” encouragement “.
That former goon chief Comey did this ” jokingly ” is somewhat plausible but should an assassination occur “What a différence would it make “

    1. Mon ami,
We know all that. We know there are many violent leftist nutcases out there who’d love to take a shot at him. It doesn’t matter.
Because once we start down that road, at some point the measures we take against people like Comey will be used against us.

      1. those tactics are already used against conservatives. As you pointed out, Sarah Palin was vilified for her remarks decades ago.

  2. I hope they use this as an excuse to investigate Comey and they find the real dirt on him. You know, just like they did to Paul Manafort and others.

  3. I agree. Comey is a POS, but this particular bit is a nothing sandwich.

On the other hand, his role in keeping the specious Trump/Russia investigation going should absolutely be investigated. That was a Democrat op from day one.

  4. I am perfectly happy doing to Comey what the Dems have been doing to conservatives for years. I don’t llike the new rules, but they created them. They won’t stop because we are too principled to return the favor. They will stop when they feel the pain. It’s called game theory.

  5. The whole thing about this “8647” thing is this: somebody is trying to make somebody angry. That idiot Comey only posted it in an effort to p.o. the Republicans and get some traction for that lame website of his. Patel’s response is designed to p.o. the Dems and stir up the voters.

Is Comey an effing useless moron? Of course he is. Somethings never change.

Does Patel have better things to do than this? Yes, every minute of every day. Leave stirring up the voters to the Talking Heads on FOX.

  6. Is it deserving of a visit from a pair of Secret Service agents? Yes, because ’86’ can be a euphemism for getting rid of someone or something in a permanent fashion, both in military and especially gangland contexts, as Comey would have known from his career as a US attorney, Deputy Attorney General of the US, and Director of the FBI. He certainly knew he had plausible deniability and could never be convicted. But a Secret Service visit would be entirely proper, and just part of doing their job talking to mouthy assholes spouting shit online. Does he deserve some jail time for other shit? Gods, yes, but securing a conviction would be problematic, to say the least.

  7. 187 is the Calif Penal Code for homicide. Due to the influence of Hollyweird, I understand (at least in the ’70s and’80s) that gangbangers across the country used it as shorthand for “kill.” “86” (to get rid of) looks/sounds close to “187,” maybe some of the folk are conflating the two because they are just innumerate.

  8. Sorry to disagree.
In Philly the mob use of 86 was to kill or rub out. Something any FEEBEE would know.
Make him hire a lawyer and go thru his underwear drawer. Paybacks a bitch!

  9. I have to disagree.

It sounds like Henry saying, “Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?”
Henry then claimed that he didn’t ask for Thomas Becket to be killed, but that very much fits into a “nudge, nudge, wink, wink, know what I mean, know what I mean” where he can disavow responsibility for the actions of his supporters. “He didn’t really mean that.”

In the same way, James Comey is posting something that he can then disavow responsibility for. He knew what he was saying, but then says that you “misunderstood” it.

No we didn’t misunderstand a thing of what you were proposing and this passive/aggressive disavowal of it doesn’t remove your responsibility for posting it.
