Sublime Beauty

Please watch just the first 8 minutes or so of this video, and then tell me why I shouldn’t lust after an Arnholt-Bristol:

Good grief, they’re beautiful.  And spendy.  Typically, they run for well over a quarter-million dollars, when you can find one.

Quality + scarcity + performance… you get the picture.

And speaking of the above features, the other two cars featured later in the video aren’t bad, either.

  1. Well – I can assure everyone that they are better looking in person than those photos suggest. I remember them competing in SCCA events in the late 60’s and early 70’s when they were still just inexpensive well used regional race cars that were also competitive in National Level event classes.
I preferred the look of the Turners that also ran in the same class ( D production as I recall )

SCCA Racing in those days had 3 divisions, Regional (Local low pressure events and drivers schools) , Nationals ( attended by the Semi-Pro teams like Bob Sharp and PL Neuman and Bob Tullius of Group 44 ) and Pro. We would go to a race almost every weekend from April to October. You worked at the Regional and National Events to secure an invitation to be a credentialled Official at Can Am, Trans Am, Formula 5000 and F1 events.

  2. I watched less than 8 minutes and that car looks beautiful. The combination of light weight and horsepower must be really fun to drive.

  3. I don’t know…. It looks like Franco Scaglione got a little too excited using his french curve.

    1. Me too. Front end sits too high visually and makes it look bent over to barf, but we can’t deny it was a runner in its day.

  4. It’s okay to lust over it, Kim, but you might not want to buy one because of just how darn small it is. It probably wouldn’t be a terribly comfortable ride for those of us who have gotten a bit older, stiffer and heavier. I’d have loved to have one of these beauties when I was a young man, though.
