Gratuitous Gun Pic: CZ 452 (.22 LR)

Also at Steve Barnett:

Over the years, CZ has upgraded their .22 bolties (I think they’re now up to Mod 457), but I have to say that other than some technical (and cosmetic) stuff, I’m not sure that oldies like this one aren’t just as good as the newer ones, certainly in terms of accuracy.

And even with the Barnett Price Premium, it’s still very good value.

Would this be a bad time to bring back Kim’s BANG (Buy A New Gun) Fund from the old blog?  Probably.  Dammit.

  1. I like that little “flip down” at the front end of the stock. I like the “top notch” at the back end too.

  2. What in the overheight tower of doom is going on with the rings? Could they not find a pair of dovetail rings to clamp directly onto the receiver? Sportsmatch, Warne, whatever…..

    1. I suspect that the owner was using a 50mm or 56mm bell on his scope. You need to get the thing up there to clear the barrel…

  3. I have a CZ-452 American, with a classic looking walnut stock. No schnabel fore end.

It’s a beautiful rifle and shoots marvellously well. I’ve spent many happy hours with it at the range and stalking rabbits in the field.

    1. I also have a 452 American. It’s a nice rifle, but the safety operates backwards from what is instinctive to me.

  4. The superb CZ 452 is hardly an “oldie”, unlike its august sires, the Brno Model 1 and Model 2, which are still fantastic rifles. All three are in the “cold dead hands” category.

    1. On thw 452 and 455, “most” of the time, it’s not an issue of the objective bell clearing the barrel, but one of the ocular bell clearing the bolt knob. Fortunately, that particular issue has been corrected by the 457’s lower, 60 deg., bolt throw.
