Conflicted

I have to say that I’m on the side of the dad in this one:

Father, 41, ran over two 15-year-old boys who were ‘bullying his son’ before repeatedly driving over one of the boy’s legs

Here’s the thing:  as a parent, you’re often helpless when your child is being bullied — the “authorities” (school admin, police, whatever) are frequently helpless or indifferent to what’s happening to your child, of course you’re not allowed to confront the evil little shits responsible, and I’m all too familiar with that feeling of impotent rage that builds and builds when you’re rendered incapable of protecting your children.

So as I said, I’m already empathetic about this dad fucking up the bullies.  But what pushes me all the way over to a “Well done!” attitude is this:

The enraged father-of-three had hunted the pair down after his porch window was smashed by one of their group and they fled the scene.  After the group vandalised the family home that night, Connolly’s son chased after them and Connolly got into his car to look for him.

And finally, there’s this:

One of the boys was treated for fractures to his foot with metal plates inserted and skin taken from his thigh.  ‘There will be permanent scarring to the foot and the thigh as a result of the surgical procedure.  He was not able to bear weight on his foot for six weeks and will have permanently reduced mobility.’

Good.  The feral little fuck deserves to be reminded, daily, of why people shouldn’t be assholes — my only quibble is that every one of the group of bullies won’t suffer the same fate, because they should.

Our Hero Dad was originally charged with attempted murder (!!) but common sense prevailed and he’ll only be charged with assault etc.  Still, he’s facing some serious consequences.

I’d like to say that I wouldn’t have done what he did, but I’m not so sure.  Protecting your family and property is so deeply embedded in the male psyche — despite all efforts of Modern Woke Society to eradicate it — that sometimes we men have no choice in the matter.  Deplore it all you want, it’s an inescapable fact.

  1. I have no problem with this father’s actions at all. As you said Kim, School officials and police are largely indifferent to this bullying. Now these feral little shits escalated to property damage. They should have had their mischief nipped in the bud long ago.

People often want to see criminals hanged and such. A better option would be to maim them. This way they have a daily reminder of their transgressions and they become a life long example to others. “why is that poor guy limping like that? Well, you see, several years ago that pervert got pervy with a little kid. That’s why he limps and his nose is cut off etc.”

  2. Eugene, Oregon (although I imagine the problem is just about anyplace in fUSA).
    .
We call them ‘goofballs’ and ‘parasites’.
They are the protected class, our local LawEnforcementOfficials are the only thing preventing their extermination.

    PS:
On the Survivalist Boards forum, a thread asks:
    * ‘what should I do if [goofballs] are in my yard after SHTF?’
Based on discussions with property owners and business owners, I get the impression goofballs will go ‘floppy’ in the first thirty minutes.
The goofballs in your yard will not be a problem.

      1. to the cheers of most conservatives, who proclaim loudly that “if you’re bullied, just get over it and grow some back bone”.
Which is exactly what I was told by both my teachers, school administration, and parents when I was severely bullied as a child, to the point I had my first suicide attempt at age 10.

It was only then that people started realising there was a problem, but instead of handling the bullies I was sent to a psychologist where I was determined to be “troubled”.

        1. I’m sorry to hear that you went through that. I saw similar approaches to bullies in elementary school. the teachers and administrators blamed the victim and the bully was enabled.

  3. That was in Scotland.
In the US, depending on where you live, the story would have ended with the miscreants taken care of by a few well placed warning shots to the back of the head or, if the father is merciful, a severe beating with a baseball bat.

  4. I am reminded of an autobiography that the great gun and outdoor writer Jack O’Connor penned. I just looked up on the web and I believe its “Horse and Buggy West”. I read it probably 50 years ago. Born in 1902 he was raised in a pretty wild Arizona. His Grandpa Woolf had been a 19th century settler in the territory. Jack as a young boy was being bullied. Grandpa Woolf took him aside and gave him a baseball bat and told Jack to lie in wait for the boys after school. Jack caught the boys by surprise and beat the crap out of them. Now Grandpa Woolf was no one to be screwed with. Back in the day when some local Indian men stole a couple head of cattle from his ranch, he kitted up, jumped on his horse and rode into the local village. As Jack relates, Grandpa Woolf shot the first three bucks he came across. End of problem.
