The investigation arose out of the charges against Harvey Weinstein (another toad) and while I believe Weinstein used his leverage to get various wannabe starlets and stars horizontal, and this probably makes me a male chauvinist oinker, I’m not sure I see where the outrage comes in. Weinstein pressured numerous women to bend over his desk, but they were adults. Polanski committed forceable anal rape of a 13 year old girl…and the Hollyweird types expect us to forgive him? I find it really hard to take anything arising from the #Me too blather seriously.
I’m inclined to think they were willing partners at the time, but with the me-too and the potential for some cash payout they are now trying to pull the “I was raped” gambit and hope for a good civil suit against him.
I’m thinking there should be a reasonable statute of limitations on when a rape charge can be reported to the police. If someone was raped 20 years ago and contacted the po-po 20 years ago when it happened, fine. Hang the guy today if that’s how long it takes to catch him.
But if someone was raped 20 years ago and just now decides to report it, hmmm. Maybe not. Maybe you need to file charges within, say 5 years of the occurrence for it to matter. With obvious exceptions for rape of children, etc. who for various reasons can’t report it right away.
And yes, I’ve heard all the arguments about intimidation, I was scared, he was powerful, I was embarassed, I didn’t think anyone would believe me, bullshit bullshit bullshit. After the shit they pulled with Kavanaugh, fuck it. I’m disinclined to believe any accusation about rape unless reported immediately. Feminist have made that bed and now all women gotta lie in it.
