Heartily Endorsed

I normally look at these travel articles with a jaundiced eye, as most are just crap.  But here’s one I’ll get behind, in spades:

One lake, four countries: Lake Constance is the perfect way to sample the delights of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein

…and indeed it is.  We stayed in Konstanz (at the Hoel Petershof), caught the ferry over to Meersburg, and later drove along the Bodensee’s southern shore to get to Bregenz. We loved it so much that we went back to Meersburg on a later trip, and stayed here:

Here was the view:

…which you may remember as the header for someone else’s blog.

As for the streets:

Yes, that’s the family grunting its way up the steep street from the lake shore.

Come to think of it, I’d love to do a week-long  tour of the Lake Constance shoreline, staying in Meersburg, Konstanz and Bregenz along the way.  In one of these:

Just do it in spring or summer, because it gets pretty damn cold around the Bodensee*  when the sun doesn’t shine.

*by the way, the Germans don’t call it a “sea” (as the idiot writer of the article claims).  The German word “see” (pronounced zay ) means “lake”.

Welcome Back

Several people have asked me to bring back Sunday’s “Classic Beauty” feature from the old website.

As all that content has lamentably been lost to the vagaries of Teh Intarwebz, this means that I’ll have to re-create the posts from scratch.

Which means hours and hours of looking at (mostly) B&W pics of gorgeous women of yore;  a job that is onerous, but which I will gladly undertake as a service to you, my Loyal Readers.

The first one, this Sunday, will start the ball rolling in no uncertain fashion.

So here we go:

city government is Democrat, so of course nobody will lose their job over this.

good thing I don’t live there, or I’d be properly fucked by now, e.g:

sheesh, it’ll cost more than that just to clean ol’ Bill Clinton’s jizz stains off the walls and floors.  And:

ignoring the irony /stupidity, am I the only one hoping for an addition to the “Death By Covid” column?

Moving on:

funny how that works.

From the You Can’t Say That! files:

not that we should care, it being only Twatter.

And from the Dept. of Scaremongering, Climate Warming Cooling  Change Division:

not gonna happen, assholes.

In Woke We Trust:

instead of “William Peace”, change it to “I Would Never Send My Kids To This” University.  Too long, you think?

Insty morphed into me so slowly, I barely noticed.

CANDACE OWENS KICKS NYT ASS
that is really funny.

hence the old saying:  don’t complain about what you find when you go snooping where you shouldn’t.

And that leads us all to (link-free) INSIGNIFICA:

Finally:

now that’s an anniversary worth celebrating… not.

Some interesting sights in that link, to be sure.

Unforeseen Hardship

I have sometimes, I think, referred to my “adopted” daughter — the quotes because she isn’t legally adopted, but I treat her as my second daughter for all sorts of reasons:  difficult parents, occasional bad health and so on.

It all started when she went on our last great overseas adventure, the “Great Catholic Trip” wherein we visited several of Europe’s great cathedrals, basically as an excuse to go to Vienna (Stephansdom), Rome (Vatican) and Paris (Notre Dame v.1).  Here are a couple of pictures of the family in those cities — Lily is the short redhead:

Heidelberg (our start-off city)

Since then (over a dozen years ago), Lily has been as close as a daughter can be without actually being one.  She found the guy of her dreams (a mechanical engineer, gawd help us), and they set about building their lives together:  working hard, building careers, saving money, buying a little house and so on.

Let me say that in the past three months, all that has come crashing down, leaving her and David in a deep pit.

Read all about it here, and please help her if you can.  Her needs are modest, but critical.

I would regard it as a personal favor from my Loyal Readers.
