No Big Deal, Then

Speaking of those manky ICE detainment centers, it seems that some illegal aliens have been dying of Covid.  Of course, that’s just terrible, according to the Usual Suspects, but some smart guy at Blueberry Town has taken a look at the actual numbers, applied some appropriate statistical methods and inferences, and sucked the air right out of the narrative:

The upshot is that ICE has been testing the heck out of the detainees in its facilities. As of September 11, there are only 20,138 detainees in ICE facilities (down from an average of >50,000 in 2019), and ICE has administered more than 35,000 Covid-19 tests. Recognizing that people cycle through these facilities at varying rates, it is safe to assume that ICE has tested a solid majority of its detainees during the last six months, and possibly the vast majority.

The agency has found 5,810 cases of Covid-19, for a “positivity rate” from testing at an ugly 16.6%. That is the sort of rate that gets journalists screaming at governors, fun banned, and schools firmly virtual.

Sounds horrible, right?  Nazzo fast, Guido:

But only 6 detainees have died of the Covid. That is a case-fatality ratio of… 0.1%. Compare that number to the observed case fatality rates in various countries, which are massively higher. The Covid-19 case fatality rate in ICE detention centers is right in line with the seasonal flu. That made us curious.

There might be several explanations for this. ICE facilities might have excellent health care. Well, maybe, but that would be a narrative-buster of the first order. Indeed, a recent whistleblower has contended that at least one ICE facility has under-reported Covid-19 cases, which would suggest an even lower case-fatality rate than indicated by the dashboard.

Through the same link, there seems to be data that says that the median age of people deported from ICE facilities is 30. By comparison, the median age in the United States is about 38. The population in ICE facilities, therefore, is almost certainly significantly younger than the United States in general.

Furthermore, eyeballing that chart above, the ICE facilities seem to have very few people over the age of 70, which represents the preponderance of Covid-19 fatalities in the general US population.

There’s all sorts of other geeky goodness in the article, and I would earnestly recommend that you read all of it.  But the executive summary?

There’s not a whole lot to panic about — not on this topic anyway.

Sorry, Commies.  Find another issue to care about.

Tearing Sounds

I sent Mr. Free Market this link a couple of days back, seeking his perspective on the matter:

The British government said that it is urgently important to restore the “social fabric” of the country amid warnings that anti-mass migration sentiment could see another summer of riots break out in the country.

His only response was this report, sent without comment:

Police not ready for summer of unrest:  Officers will be diverted away from local duties, bosses warn, as protests over mass migration grow.

After days of protests against mass migration outside asylum hotels, with more planned in the coming weeks, there are fears the UK could be heading for another summer of violent disorder.

The gloomy background scenario aside, I can’t help but think that the Britcops should have no staffing issues at all.  Perhaps they might consider releasing thousands of their rozzers from monitoring social media for “hate speech”, but that would probably be too much to ask.

What I’ve seen in various other reports is that the number of “sickies” (sick days) in the force seems to be on the rise.  Perhaps the rank-and-file don’t have the heart to do what their superiors will be asking them to do.

An interesting situation.

Floggings Indicated

Then you have this kind of Lefty fun and games:

Four anti-ICE activists were arrested after allegedly planting homemade tire deflation devices around vehicles belonging to federal law enforcement agents conducting immigration enforcement operations in the Van Nuys neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The question, then, is what kind of punishment should be meted out to the little scamps who perpetrated this mischief?

Obviously, this is overkill (so to speak):

…because the tire-spikes are not deadly things, per se.

And clearly, fines and similar wrist-slaps are not adequate punishment either;  but imprisonment seems a little harsh — not to me, but to the average citizen, maybe.  So perhaps a little public punishment might be called for:

Lots of owie, but nothing long-lasting — pour encourager les autres, if you’ll excuse my French.

Just sayin’.

I Love Florida

I wouldn’t want to live there (#Bugs #Humidity #Hurricanes), but I just love the attitude of FLGov De Santis, talking about the proposed “Alligator Alcatraz”, a holding camp for illegal immigrants which is under construction on an abandoned airstrip right in the middle of the Everglades swamp:

“We’ve got a massive runway right behind us where any of the federal assets that want to fly these people back to their home country—they can do it one-stop shop.”

Nothing like a little efficiency, is there?

Predictably, some assholes aren’t very happy about all this, but the hell with them.  The facility is due to start full-scale operations any day now.

And The Hits Keep On Coming

Well, that wasn’t too hard, now, was it?

The man accused of supplying Los Angeles rioters with “bionic” face shields has been identified and arrested, the FBI said. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Now find out who paid for the face shields and go after them, and their funding, all the way up the chain to George Soros, and arrest all of them.

If ever there was a clear case of “aiding and abetting a felony”, this would be it.

Root and branch, folks.

Hand Me A Cigarette, Simon

Oh baby, there’s so much Trumpy goodness in this report:

‘What you’re witnessing in California is a full blown assault on peace, on public order and national sovereignty… with the aim of continuing a foreign invasion of our country. We’re not gonna let that happen,’ he said.

‘We will not allow an American city to be invaded and conquered by a foreign enemy. That’s what they are.

‘These are animals, but they proudly carry the flags of other countries, but they don’t carry the American flag. They only burn it.’

The president went on to call LA ‘a trash heap’ with ‘entire neighborhoods under control’ of criminals, adding the government would ‘use every asset at our disposal to quell the violence and restore law and order.’

‘We will liberate Los Angeles and make it free, clean and safe again,’ Trump said.

The ICE raids have sparked protests that brought Los Angeles to its knees, leading the mayor to introduce a lockdown from 8pm to 6am.

But Trump is now set to deploy yet more ICE agents to five Democrat-run cities for sweeping arrests.

The military-style units are set to storm New York City, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia and northern Virginia. Four of those five are heavily blue cities, while northern Virginia contains the Democrat enclave of Alexandria.

Just give me a moment… where did I put it?  Oh, here it is:

Or we could just nuke them all from orbit.

Okay, you all can quit that unseemly laughter and cheering now.
