I think the most irritating thing about Abba’s music is that the songs’ “hooks” are so good, it’s more difficult to rid yourself of them than a salmon trying to throw a treble hook from its mouth.
For example, this one. All the more evocative because it was released just before one of the girls (I forget which one) got divorced.
We went to the ABBA Experience in London last year. I have to admit, it was very good. My son and I still haven’t worked out how they did the hologram stuff, it was like live action puppetry without the strings.
They were both gorgeous; but by God Anni-frid was HORNY!!
Abba remains one of my favorite groups of all time. I still think the Fernando song was stylistically and musically the best, once I was convinced the ‘cross the Rio Grande’ part wasn’t about Pancho Villa attacking a US border town.
There are a few ABBA songs that are good. The local minor league baseball endeavor used to play “Take a Chance on Me” when a relief pitcher was brought into the game.
