There’s a wonderful Afrikaans idiom which goes, “Ugly is one thing, but stupid?” (The “stupid” is pronounced “stchoopid”, which makes it all the meatier.)
Which was my first impression when espying this little offer from PSA:

“UGLY” is for the gun; “STUPID” is for the schmuck who’d pay nearly three grand (or the non-sale four-and-a-half grand) for this foul thing.
I don’t care how well it shoots (we’ll ignore the 9mm Europellet because in this case, the chambering is irrelevant); this is not a gun that any man should be carrying, or competing with, or — guess who would — showing off to his friends along with his $100,000 diamond-encrusted Hublot wristwatch and $750,000 Lamborghini Astarigida*.
Ugh. I need to get to the range and shoot some nice guns. (see below)
*colloquial Italian expression for “erection”, i.e. “stiff rod”. It’s what all modern Lamborghinis should be named.
I have no idea why any company makes these hideous firearms. How many of these eyesores do they actually sell?
Looks like a “gangsta gun”, you know, for them goll-teef human primates of african persuasion that have conned stupid white folk out of their coin.
I’m pretty sure that this is some kind of unlimited double stack competition shooting pistol
The theory behind this shooting discipline is that participants can modify their guns as they wish within very broad parameters
I had one of these double stack pistols chambered in 45 ACP, but the grip frame was too much for my medium sized hands to control
Like most things, competition handguns have increased dramatically in price over the years
As for me, I prefer older handguns, especially revolvers over the course of the last 15 or so years
I picked up a 60 year old S and W Model 25-5, chambered in 45 Long Colt in the manly N Frame platform, at the gun show over the weekend
I also tend to compete, if at all, against myself, whether shooting or running
I shot an action shooting match around fifteen years ago, and everyone took the matter too seriously for my tastes, to the point that it detracted from the joy and peace I associate with shooting
It’s the reason I quit competitive shooting, thirty or so years ago. I never took it that seriously to start off with, mind you, so it was no great loss to me.
That said, one of my abiding memories was the impromptu IDPA competitions with friends. Much teasing and fooling around was the order of the day.
My game for a couple of decades was NRA Highpower Rifle, plus a local Bullseye pistol league in the spring, starting around 1980. Always found the Highpower crowd to be the most welcoming of new shooters. The brief times I hung around shotgunners and 22 shooters, not so much. Still miss those days.
As to the terminally stupid bling above–It’s one thing to own a tastefully hand engraved work of art (which I have no desire to own, but am happy to drool over) why would anyone want to pay anything for somebody to basically clamp parts of a gun in a CNC machine, push a button, and render half the part into metal chips?
I wouldn’t say “ no man should”, but there is no way I would. For some reason 9mm 1911’s seem unnatural, kind of like ellen now insisting she’s bill. Guess I’m a purist of some sort, my 4 1911s are .45. My other 8 adult autos are 9mm. On the other hand, I wouldn’t mind if someone gave me a .22 cal 1911. While I’m being opinionated, revolvers should be .357, unless they’re .44’s. (22 cal exception).
Trying to find fault with your comment, but failing.
I’m getting about a dozen or so emails daily from various gun sites trying to sell me crap. The amount of “pimp guns” is simply unbelievable. There was a full size long slide 1911 finished in rose gold. Fucking rose gold. With rose gold colored grips. Jesus.
I can only guess they make them because someone is buying them. For myself, stainless (or brushed aluminum) for working guns, blued steel and wood for everything else.
