It has been quite a while since I took my revolvers out for some air — I speak here not of the .22 revolvers, but the meatier ones — and as I was packing the range bag, I thought I’d drop in a quick pic of some of the old S&W warriors:

For those unfamiliar with the K-frame (and one J-frame) models, they are (clockwise from top):
- Mod 60 .38 Spec 4″
- Mod 14 Target Master .38 Spec 6″
- Mod 637 .38 Spec 2″
- Mod 65 .357 Mag/.38 Spec 4″
Just so we’re perfectly clear on the topic, I love all of them equally. Each has a specific use (e.g. the Mod 65 is my bedside gun, the little 637 a backup option, etc.), each has its own story, and a day at the range spent in their company is a day well spent.
“So why the smaller K-frame models, and not the L or N ones, Kim?”
The K-frame revolvers just fall into my hands, no muss no fuss, like they were made for them. The larger frames, not so much.
Also, I want to draw particular attention to the first-mentioned Model 60:

…because I came to own it under fairly interesting circumstances, which I’ll explain tomorrow as part of a novel idea.
Now that is more fun than a basket of puppies.
I love my Mod 19. I told my daughter & heir if she ever sold it, I would dis-inherit her or haunt her from the grave.
In general I love revolvers. I love the fit, feel, & panache. I own more than one—less than 1000, and love every one like I will love my future grandkids (however the Ruger LCR I bought, is not near the quality of the S&W’s). The only automatic that comes close is the 1911.
That said back during the chink-virus and mostly-peaceful era, .357 and .38 around these parts was pure unobtanium (as was .22). Therefore I bought a Europellet automatic because ammo was still acquireable. It goes bang, but its boxy, and looks like it was designed in Soviet Brutalist style.
Uhhh… Kim? The Model 60 was a stainless steel 5 shot J frame revolver.
What you zoomed in on is a blued steel 6 shot K frame. Looks like a Model 10.
Only one of the above guns is a 5 shot J frame, in fact, and that’s the one at the bottom, which ALSO surprises me, because it has the abominable Hillary Hole on the side.
I’ve been neglecting my revolvers and plan to rectify it this winter. I only take a few guns south with me. This years line up in .22 is Ruger sp101 and gp100, in 357 its ruger gp100 and S&W 686+. The Mrs wants me to bring the S&W compact 22 for her to shoot and I will bring a 9mm to carry.
