In just about every electoral system in the world, that could be construed as a “spoiled ballot” by a rules zealot, and cause for removal from the count. In the wrong hands — in this case, a ballot counter who’s also a Dougherty supporter — I’ll leave it to you to figure it out.
Whenever you’re marking a paper ballot set out like this, do not let your mark even touch the boundary of the checkbox, and use an “X” to make your mark.
