10 Best / Worst

Here’s a list of movies I can get behind:

10 Brilliant British War Films That Completely Tanked
(That Are Now Classics)

I’ve seen all but one or two (I have got to watch Colonel Blimp at some point in the near future), and all I can do is offer a ringing endorsement.  That they all failed at the box office just reinforces how good they really are.

I have DVD copies of A Bridge Too FarAces High and Charge of the Light Brigade, and having been reminded by the video, I think I need to look at acquiring a couple more — The War Game and Zulu Dawn, especially.

Do ye (y’all) the same.

  1. definitely pick up DVDs of movies you like. The streaming services are okay but they don’t stream every movie or television program. I’m surprised at the number of well regarded films that they do not stream.

I tried to chip away at the American Film Institutes top whatever number of films and I was stunned at how many simply are not available to stream.

    1. What’s even worse is that the streamed movies are often edited (for reasons best known to the streamers).
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series on Netflix bears absolutely no relation to the original, for example.

  2. I rate “Zulu” as one of the best war movies ever made.
Yes, I know it is ahistorical and far removed from the reality of the action at Rorke’s Drift, but it is a magnificent portrayal of courage under fire and respect for a courageous foe.
