All-electric, huh? Wasn’t that the call not even a year ago? Looks like somebody may be having a change of heart:
Jaguar is reportedly considering performing a dramatic U-turn on its plans to become an exclusively electric car maker, according to reports.
Sources close to the project told the Sunday Times that bosses have instructed engineers in the UK to develop a new petrol-electric hybrid engine it can offer as an alternative option to customers in what would be a significant one eighty on its all-electric rebrand.
The ‘secret initiative’ is part of efforts to ‘soothe drivers’ concerns’ about range anxiety amid a slowdown in EV demand across several major markets, which has already triggered a number of manufacturers to delay their own plans to go all in on battery-powered cars.
And you can all stop that derisive laughter now, okay?
nah, Jaguar and other companies like them deserve every bit of derisive laughter they receive and much much more. The executives should be fired and ostracized like Bud LIght’s marketing team that hired Dylan Mulvaney.
They ARE Bud Light’s marketing team.
Maybe there’s hope?

The idea of an all-ICE manufacturer going all EV was a pipe dream from the get-go. Being all EV works for newly created companies such as Tesla & Rivian because they have no baggage in the form of public perception, previous customers, or substantial investments in ICE manufacturing. I predict that, short of sweeping government mandates or a seismic shift in public opinion, no legacy car maker will ever successfully transition to an all EV lineup.
Jaguar will not recover. They may make a few hybrid or all electric automobiles, but they are done as a profitable manufacturer. What they should do is make a modern version of an E-Type with a high output V-12 and a manual transmission, but that idea is beyond them.
I feel the same about Jaguar as I do about Cracker Barrel – they can beg for forgiveness and renounce their wokeness all they want, but I’ll never trust them or do business with them again. I may forgive them for being stupid, but I’ll never forget they’ll sell me out if they think they can get away with it.
This decision is a result of a public survey about the reliability of Jaguar electronics.
Their electronics subsidiary, Lucas. telling the Board of Directors that they could have an all electric car finished by this time next year helped the Board reach its decision.
Wait. They trusted Lucas?? No wonder they’re in such trouble.
Very old saying (circa middle ’50s?) ” Lucas Electrics, Prince of Darkness.” I do remember helping a dude down at Key West NAS change the oil on his XK-140. Took _12_ quarts of oil for the 6 cylinder motor
