For the longest time, I would have been one of the loudest voices opposing the idea that we Murkins should copy anything much from the Scandi countries — okay, maybe some of their darkest noir crime TV shows, but not much else.
However, I think that when it comes to immigration policy, there’s much to be learned from the Danes. Watch the video to see how they fixed their erstwhile ruinous position on immigration.
What interests me the most is that highly-restrictive immigration controls, so often a feature of conservative (what they call right-wing) parties, have become very much a part of the Social Democrat (what we would call left-wing) party policy.
You see, the Danes are if nothing else, highly pragmatic in their pursuit of what they consider the ideal society. And yes, while a strong welfare state is the sine qua non of Danish society, they also understand that without social cohesion, a welfare state is not a tenable system. Those two pillars — the welfare system and social cohesion — form the foundation of their society, and what the Danes realized, long before any of their European neighbors did, that untrammeled immigration of Third Worlders of the Arab Muslim and African persuasion was rending their social cohesion asunder, and undermining their cherished welfare state.
You have to hand it to them for swinging their immigration system by 180 degrees: in fact, it’s harder to immigrate into Denmark than it is into the United States because the Danish requirements for residency are unbelievably restrictive, including such concepts as civic indoctrination and the linking of conformity to any kind of welfare. If you don’t fit in, the Danes will force you to fuck off back to your shithole country of origin, with neither remorse nor pity on their part.
And naturalized Danish citizenship is almost impossible to come by without lengthy permanent residency and complete assimilation via a rigorous civics examination process. (Fail that test, and you’re on the next plane back to Shitholistan.)

I’ll leave it to y’all to decide, though, how likely it is that the foul Democrat-Socialist Party of today would perform a similar change in their position on immigration. And quit laughing.

I suspect that things have gone so far wrong, for so long now in the US that the water has been sufficiently muddied so as to never be clear again.

Denmark smartened up. I see other countries also have restrictive immigration policies. I see that countries with restrictive immigration policies don’t have the assimilation problems that countries with lax immigration policies have. Look at France, England, Germany compared with Poland, Switzerland etc.
If you can’t or won’t support yourself and won’t assimilate, then you should get tossed out of your host country. It’s not up to us to support the deadbeats of the third world.

I’m sure the CIA has done quite a bit of nasty work during its existence but shouldn’t the CIA be preventing these countries from becoming shit holes? Can’t we identify various countries to resist totalitarianism and finance elections like we did in 1950s Italy or fund some coups like we did in 1950s Iran? If we have a national interest in a country, we should ensure that their regimes remain friendly towards us.
I think the CIA has deliberately kept shitholia going so we can negotiate with whatever warlord is amenable to gain access to things like cobalt.
The Danes go a bit far in the other direction. They recently deported a Danish Army Officer’s wife because he was no longer living in the Denmark – because the Army deployed him to Poland for 6 months with his unit.
I have an acquaintance who is married to a Dane and cannot get a residency permit despite being ethnically Danish and fluent in Danish (and they both have PHDs). The issue apparently being that she is American, if she was EU they would have to take her.
I am very much a border hawk, but this seems silly and pointless.
A close family friend was transferred from NJ to Copenhagen about 10ish years ago and she fell in love with the place and has decided to relocate there for the rest of her life. She’s *still* in the process of earning her Danish citizenship after all this time. Indeed, you must be able to read, speak, and write Danish fluently and naturally, and understand everything there is to know about the culture and history of the country. And then after all that they can still toss you out on your arse if they don’t like the cut of your jib.
I’d personally rather eat my own spleen than live there, or in any socialist country, but it is indeed a lovely place for a short visit.

Yeah, about that assimilation thing, fugg dat. I don’t care if they can parrot facts about American history and culture, they don’t belong here, and never will.
