Dog, Sick As A

Sorry, folks, but last Friday the roof caved in on me:  post-nasal drip, barking cough, sore throat with a side order of conjunctivitis (a.k.a. “pink-eye”, for those of a non-medical bent).  Oh, and my speaking voice disappeared into a spectral whisper / ghastly croak, and has not yet returned.

Everything that has appeared on this website since Friday was written prior to that.

Saturday off to the doc for tests, not Covid, not flu, not pneumonia.  Doctor’s opinion:  “It’s a cold.  But it’s a really bad cold, maybe the worst cold I’ve seen in a patient so far this season.”

Upshot:  haven’t been able to sleep for longer than an hour (cough), haven’t been able to read anything, can’t watch TV, don’t feel like writing anything either because everything in the news just makes me want to go to the range and blast off 200 rounds and I can’t even do that.

I’ll try to do better tomorrow.

Here’s a pic of the Usual Rubbish, just to tide you over.  Feel free to discuss in Comments;  just know I won’t be reading it for a while, so behave.

Common thread:  French stuff.

MAS-49 (7.5x54mm)* Corrected

NOT the MAS-49

Damn foreigners all look the same to me.  Sorry about that.

  1. Yikes! Sorry to hear that, my friend. I had a cold like last season, and it’s the worst. I don’t do well with them because I rarely get sick (touches wood). And yes, don’t watch the news. CWII may just kick off while you’re recovering, you don’t need to add the aggravation to your already uncomfortable condition.

Here’s hoping you recover quickly, but don’t worry about us, we’ll survive. As I recall, my last bout lasted longer than normal, as well. Chicken soup, lots of, and a little Jameson in your coffee, says Dr. JC.

  2. Here’s Uncle Brad’s cold relief formula …
Take 2 Benadryl, followed by 2 Tylenol, and chase both with a good stiff shot (5 to 6 oz)of Manischewitz concord grape Kosher wine. About 20 minutes after downing this tonic, you should start feeling a tad bit groggy, and sleep should follow.
    You’re welcome

  3. Vitamins D and C would probably help (shouldn’t hurt anyway).

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

  4. I caught that same ick in Deutchland the day before Christmas, gave it to my wife, and infected everybody in the Business Class cabin of the Lufthansa 747-8 I flew back to Newark in on Boxing day. It only got worse from there, and I’m still suffering the last of the post-nasal drip four weeks later.

For cough, ask the doc if Promethazine would be suitable for you at night. It’s the *only* thing that allowed me to sleep more than 2 hours during the worst of it. And if not, Benadryl might be your friend here if herr WhiteCoat™ agrees. Mine also put me on a 7 day course of Doxy that certainly didn’t hurt, much as I don’t like taking antibiotics, period. Feel better mate!

  5. Whisky, lemon, and honey, all dissolved in hot water. Just be sure to taste-test the whisky first.
