Rats, Sensing Danger

Well now, lookee here:

As Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani surges ahead in New York City’s mayoral race, residents are racing to secure homes in the leafy, affluent enclaves of Connecticut and Westchester County — driven by anxieties over potential policy shifts that could reshape the city’s economic and social fabric.

These, I think, are people who are tied to NYfC by their jobs on Wall Street or wherever, and can’t join the hordes of Noo Yawkers who have already fled for Florida, Texas and anywhere that’s not the Northeast.  So they have to leave the Upper East Side, but can’t go too far away from Downtown.

Hence:  Connecticut and locales outside the Five Boroughs.

“Many buyers are mentioning concerns about the mayoral election as a key driver.”

Buyers repeatedly voice worries about rising levies, public safety and urban livability under a Mamdani administration.

Like NYfC isn’t a big enough shithole already.

As Stephen Green points out:

The guy isn’t even elected yet, and already the sheep he counted on fleecing are fleeing instead.

And as one famous ex-Manhattanite might put it:

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of assholes.

  1. During COVID the plague from NY moved all the way into Rhode Island from what I hear. Southern New England already has enough problems without adding more NYC leftists to the mix.

    1. Frankly, to the rest of us, the entire Northeast is already one big fat collective [sic] of Commie frog-infested puddles.
Moving the tadpoles around from one puddle to another makes little difference.

      1. when the balloon goes up, I’ll be a target rich environment. NH seems to be a hold out and parts of maine

  2. Please remember that there are usually two kinds of people evacuating these collectivist black holes:

Refugees, and colonizers. People in the so-called “red states” should welcome the productive (or retired, in our case) refugees, since we’re bring large amounts of capital with us, and gently point out to the colonizers that they’re not really gonna be welcome.

My wife and I are political and economic refugees from the Soviet Socialist State of Minnesota, and are living here in NW Wyoming trying to alert the locals to the already-declining state-of-the-state. It’s been hard to convince people that seemingly-innocent things like “bike lanes” are actually camels-noses in the tent, with long-term plans of things like depriving people of individual automobiles. It only goes downhill from there. As a side note, there are probably 30 days in any given year in which you can successfully ride a bicycle here in Wyoming, the rest of the time it’s too hot (triple digits), too cold (-35F is not unusual), too snowy or icy, or (most of the time) just too dang windy. Yesterday we averaged about 30 MPH, with 40 MPH gusts. Try riding home with a load of groceries, uphill, and into the wind.

And here’s a question: Why hasn’t anybody come up with a meme (I’m a geezer with no idea how to make them) showing “The Great Zohran” as a magician, say that “For my next performance, I will make New York City DISAPPEAR as a world financial center.” Maybe it’s just too close to the truth.

  3. Wall Street, schmall street – and the people who work there – mnyeh. But the Cloisters, the Morgan, the Fitch, the Heye… what will happen to them when an avowedly image-hating thug gets to hang his turban in Gracie Mansion? And, when he needs to raise revenue for the Fourth Empire?
The Dutch Girl in White weeps.

  4. Wednesday morning: What’s that giant sucking sound? (courtesy Rosss Perot)
Money fleeing NYC for New Jersey and Florida.
I want to see videos of Momdani’s voters when they find the grocery shelves mostly empty and what little remains are inferior goods, when the “free” buses no longer run for lack of maintenance funds and know-how, when their rent-controlled dwellings’ toilets stop working for lack of maintenance, when power brownouts become every day occurrences, when the sidewalks become latrines for the homeless mobs, and when they have to travel in packs to hopefully avoid being mugged on the streets for what little they have.
I’m going to bask in the schadenfreude, nay wallow in it, while they sleep in the bed they soiled. Leftists need a massive dose of consequences for their unicorn fart pipe dreams and actions; immediate, harsh physical, financial, lifestyle and legal consequences.

  5. Perhaps someone from their could enlighten us to the particulars, but I assume that New York has well-developed methods of shaking down earners who commute from out of state? With the amount of money at stake from high-earners domiciled across the line, I imagine it is easy enough to demand Payroll kick in the Governor’s Portion before the money flows across the Hudson.

    1. Wow. I’ve gotten spoiled by other formats that allow editing comments. Sorry about the typo.
