FFS, I’m 70 years old and I cannot conceive of any rhyme or reason why after all this time I would start wearing that old Che Guevara t-shirt again, or wearing a peace amulet and saying “Far out!” (except to embarrass my children, of course).
But if you look at pics of all the White morons screaming indignantly at ICE or whatever, they’re all grey-haired old farts waving their wrinkled arthritic fists in the air and chanting “Hey, hey, LBJ! How many kids did you kill today?” because their addled brains got all confused and they can’t remember the current idiotic chants because they forgot their cheat sheets (helpfully printed out for them by ActBlue) back at home, underneath their well-thumbed copies of the New York fucking Times. Not for the first time, I’m embarrassed by my own age group, and the sooner they all die the better.

Looking at the demographics of the Villages, I’m guessing a ‘Kent State moment’ will turn out a little differently. The Villages are very white and very Republican (https://voterrecords.com/charts/the+villages-fl) and I’m betting that there is a lot of geezers with concealed carry permits there.
People today, in general, are embarrassing and I go out of my way not to associate with them.

I can’t imagine anyone at that age (and I’m 59 myself) being so wishy washy as to change political parties or political opinions in such a vastly different manner. If anything, I would hazard a guess that it’s more to do with social security (and political lies about it) than any of the other stuff.

I’m 71 and I’m definitely with you. I cannot understand the D shift in men in our age group, unless the onset of senile dementia is earlier than I thought it was.

I probably not alone in shaking my head “Masculine”, God how that definition has slipped if Obammy makes the list.
Growing up in the 80’s hair-metal era, I said once to a friend, “There’s nothing more pathetic than an aging Heavy Metal star, they think everyone wants to see your 6o yr old ass in leather pants.” To which he replied, “Aging hippies are worse”, and I couldn’t disagree.
I wonder on the above list, how many of the 65+ group was at Woodstock, I’d wager all of them were.
My thought is this is a result of blackmail by their daughters (D+3) to keep access to the grandkids. Claim to be D but vote R in private.
And then there’s the question of who actually answers these polls? Are the 65+ crowd more likely to answer the call on the landline and take the polls? Are those on the coasts, rather than “fly over country” more likely to answer? I took a look at Pews’s website, and of course they try to make the calls as random as possible. But then there’s “weighting”… According to Pew “Weighting boosts the voices of people who belong to groups that are less likely to participate in polls and lowers the voices of people from groups that are more likely to take polls.” Who does the weighting? People? Algoriths? AI?
The last masculine Dem I can think of was probably JFK, but not being able to keep it in his pants would’ve probably led to his downfall if he hadn’t been assassinated.
