From TTAG:
Groups like Everytown’s “The Smoking Gun” project are calling out gun companies for daring to market to women. Their big gripe? That the firearm industry is trying to “normalize” women and guns.
Damn right we are.
In my earlier, busier times, I must have taught about four- to five hundred women to shoot — my record being a class of over twenty, at a schutzenfest in southern Virginia (or Tennessee, my geography was kinda scrambled by the time we got to the “range” at some guy’s farm).
All my teaching sessions involved starting off with a .22 pistol or revolver (usually one of mine, unless they’d brought their own), and a gradual transition to something a little more powerful, each woman at her own pace of acceptance, familiarity and acquired skill. All the ammo was on me, and I refused to accept payment.
As a rule, I find it easier to teach women to shoot; they’re more attentive, more obedient and less squeamish about asking “stupid” questions than men are. Men are all tangled up in both testosterone and, I think, embarrassment (at not knowing how to shoot), so they tend to be more difficult pupils. Where possible, I segregated the men from the women.
Also, quite a few ladies didn’t want their husbands or boyfriends to teach them; they preferred a neutral third party to avoid any impatience or emotion. That’s a very mature attitude.
The best part of teaching Teh Girls? That look of quiet confidence, of self-assuredness and self-reliance they get after they’ve become comfortable with The Gun Thing. (One woman, who’d been fleeing from an abusive ex-boyfriend for over two years, later wrote to me and told me that after the last of our classes — as I recall we’d had half a dozen — she’d had her first proper night’s sleep in years. Her gun? A Ruger SP101, loaded with .38 Special+P hollowpoints. Pity the fool.)
Golden moments… it’s too bad they don’t happen as often as they used to.
When I worked in the gun biz, many many women worked in the gun biz. Many even worked in the factory, assembly putting them together, machine shop making the parts and on the test range before sending them to shipping. (And for those who ask, no not enjoyable. Most people who worked on the test range did not enjoy the job after about a year. All day you shoot guns, and with very specific rules which makes the shooting monotonous and not fun).
Women also worked in the office in accounting, Marketing and IT.
Employees brought their wives and daughters to the annual employee range shoot and picnic and also to the employee indoor range during the rest of the year.
And many sizes (tiny 5 foot nothing to 6 foot behemoths) and races of women, including but not limited to white, polish, Puerto Rican, black, Italian and all mixtures and mutts in between.
When there were special events, even a few (not many) but a few college professors came. A college local to the factory brought their business class yearly for a tour and the students enjoyed the range time, and the older female professor even enjoyed the range. (Again this was a rarity most college professors and students are brainwashed fucking commies who hate guns). This was a private college.
There were even a few man hating lesbians who came through the range. And a small number of the lezzies worked at the place too.
Which reminds me of a few sayings:
“Variety is the spice of life”.
(I am not a religious person but the below quote is great).
“God made all men and women equal. Samual Colt kept them equal”
My perspective is that teaching women (or anyone) to use a firearm safely and effectively empowers them with an important life skill and instills confidence.
One day a 5 foot nothing accountant came in to the range and one of the guns she shot was a large caliber revolver. We used to load just one round into the massive 5 round cylinder of the really big bore revolvers. She put that one round dead center on the target. Yes. Only paper some would say. However she smiled and those around her on the firing line saw this and cheered her on. That builds confidence. And says don’t fuck with the little ones. Her husband was very proud too. She done good shooting the big gun as a tiny lady.
Also had very old peeps come through too. A local guy and his wife who owned a bunch of gas stations (long since sold now this was years ago). He came in with his wife to take a gun permit class and use the range. He was a multi millionaire many times over. So not all wealthy people are anti gun cock suckers.
The anti gun commies want to normalize telling others they don’t need a gun. Guns are bad. Don’t exercise your rights. Just be submissive. And do all that you can to spread the propaganda and help to disarm the population.
Yup these commies are vile. One hopes they are the idiots that become victims of the same criminals they advocate to be released into society so maybe they will wake up one day and join the real common sense side and support the ultimate human right of self defense and gun ownership.
The second amendment is very important. The founding fathers were very intelligent and forward thinking.
Kim,
You mentioned in your post:
“ A Ruger SP101, loaded with .38 Special+P hollowpoints. Pity the fool.)”
Ruger makes damn good guns that are affordable and Ruger stands behind their products should you experience any issues.
Ruger is my favorite revolver brand.
when groups like Moms Demand Attention whine and cry you know that it’s a great day!!! Fuck Shannon Watts, Michael Bloomturd, Gabby Giffords and all the other anti rights jackasses. They can rot in hell.
God created man, Sam Colt made them equal!
Moms demand action sounds like a cheesy porn flick.
But if you’ve ever seen some of the moms demanding action against guns, damn; no need for abortion I don’t know what guy is sticking their dicks in some of these disgusting pigs to begin with. Vomit fest. Nasty bitches inside and out.
I was married to my first wife for 30 years but didn’t start shooting ungil year 25 or so. My second wife actually wanted to shoot from the gitgo and started carrying almost immediately after learning how even before we were married.
The thing is, I did not teach either one at first. I insisted they take a course geared towards teaching women beginners. It is not that I cannot (I have taught others to shoot) it is that when I teach I have a tendency to slip into Navy instructor mode and I do not want to be that way with my romantic partner. Now I will give pointers at the range or whatever, but I want to be doing that as a partner.
YMMV
I’m not surprised that there are many who want women to fear going out of their front doors without an armed male escort. In fact there is an entire religion that seems devoted to instilling this attitude into women.
