what was Gawker and what did Hulk Hogan do to it? Sounds like the response to that fetid malcontent was spot on
Gawker was the online eqiv of Weekly World News rag that littered checkout isles at US grocery stores. With, much the same content.
Gawker did a hit-piece on HH, showing some extract of a sex-romp video claiming it was him. Bullea (Hogan) filed a lawsuit of defamation and harm done to his image and ability to work -also aided by a billionaire footing the bill, since Gawker outed him as gay (which he kept hid well…)
Hogan\Bullea won the case getting well over $100M in settlement and more in compulsory damages. This, lead to bankrupting the company, and shuttering their doors.
They were brought back to life several years later, but it didn’t last – it closed again for good several years later.
Fair damsel (a true AWFL…) seems not to have gotten over their slander\libel romp, and its consequences….
To expand on your comment, Gawker’s modis operandi was to write hit pieces that went off into slander against their target. When sued by the target, they had enough money to “win” by delay in court. They would then offer the target a few thousand for which the target had to sign a NDA prohibiting any discussion of what Gawker did to the target.
Gawker’s problem with HH was he was backed by a billionaire, so Gawker couldn’t buy him off. They then violated (defied) a Judge’s order, leading to a Contempt of Court charge. That got them into court the second time with the multi-million judgement against both Gawker & the Gawker CEO Nick Denton.
As a result of the judgement, Gawker & Denton filed for bankruptcy.

I’ll admit to watching Hulk and the WWF. Of course it was silly, it was supposed to be, but it didn’t help my science scores.
But after all, if it wrecks even one leftist, its worth it.
