An Australian small business owner says she lost about $50,000 after Instagram suspended her accounts over what she describes as an innocent photo of three dogs.
Rochelle Marinato, managing director at Pilates World Australia, recently received an email from Instagram’s parent company Meta stating her accounts had been suspended because the image breached community guidelines relating to ‘child sexual exploitation, abuse and nudity’.
The photo had been mistakenly flagged by an AI moderator which confused the image of the dogs with those of children.
She appealed the decision and sent 22 emails to Meta, but received no assistance from the global tech giant, which owns Instagram, Facebook, Threads, Messenger and WhatsApp.
Ms Marinato claimed her story was just one of many and that the problem was widespread.
She also said it was impossible to talk to a human at Meta to explain her situation.
‘I couldn’t get a human to look at it. Clearly any human that looks at this photo is going to know it’s completely innocent,’ she said.
‘You can’t contact a human at Meta. There’s no phone number, there’s no email, there’s nothing and you’re literally left in the dark.’

All the more reason to avoid any “service” that doesn’t allow real, direct, human interaction. I’m very glad that the only one of those products I ever indulged in (Fecesbook) I dropped years ago.

As far as the no human involved customer service. It was bad before now since Covid that bullshit is happening more and more. Look at that stupid shit where you buy a used car sight unseen and show up to a vending machine or it is delivered to your house on a flatbed.
I hate dealing with most people as people suck. However when you are doing business (buying a vehicle, using social media to make money like the person in the article or ordering something that you depend on, like a cell phone, in those cases, I want to go in person, see the product and deal with a human to purchase the product or service.
And Covid, the SCAMdemic, really destroyed what was left of customer service at many companies.

If AI (ARTIFICIAL Intelligence) see anything other than 3 dogs in a picture of pooches, then humans trusting vehicles that self drive or smart home devices and medical devices to help our lives will be a very stupid decision.

I’m apparently banned from having a Facebook account. which is fine by me because I’ve never really needed one.
People hear the term Artificail Intelligence and tend to focus on the Intelligence part. They really should focus on the Artificial part. As in its pretending to be intelligence. It’s really just a complex search algorithm that mimics what passes for intelligence.
Does Zuck rely on AI for his personal security?

This is going t get worse, a LOT worse.
My background is 43 years with these things ( computers – big ones – the ones you no longer see anywhere but they are still around – a LOT of them ! ).
They provided me with a good income. and I have come to the unalterable conclusion that despite the benefit they have made possible, overall they are the worst, most dangerous threat to mankind as we know it today !!
First, AI is a marketing term and nothing more. Sounds better than ‘ with a whole bunch of new programs with buggy code, new colors and time wasting gee-gaws that we ALL NEED’.
Computers are still using ‘0’s and ‘1’s which means newer, programs is all it CAN be !
Second, when you get one, it doesn’t ‘know’ anything ! We’re going to leave the ‘operating system’ out of this for a bit. It’s knows ONLY what you tell it ( whether what you tell it is true or not is is a whole ‘nother area of discussion !!
What makes them useful is consistency. What was true yesterday is still true today and will still be true tomorrow – ie 2+2=4. When 2+2 = 3.68399214 you have a problem, a BIG one.
Take the consistency OUT of the machine BY ANY MEANS and you have something that you simply cannot trust or believe in or depend on and that is where we are today.
And I still believe that it’s going to get far far worse because the variety and especially the sheer volume of information ABOUT ALL OF US is growing EVERY DAY .
Ponder this – do you have any idea or a ‘list’ of WHO exactly has ANY information about you and if so, what information do they have and is it TRUE and if it isn’t what can YOU ALONE do about it ??
I need to stop now. This is costing me enamel on my teeth and hair that I no longer have enough left to spare some of it !!
To paraphrase the Hithchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy I trust Mark Zuckerberg as far as I can comfortably spit a rat. I have nothing to do with his poxy products, and gmail’s the only Google product I use. The only social media I use is X.
I feel for Ms. Marinato and hope she gets Zuckerberg’s demons sorted out.
