  1. Calling Amanpour a ‘tart’ is inaccurate. She doesn’t dress and act like she’s promiscuous (what sane male would be interested?); she dresses and acts like she’s brain damaged.

  2. Like you, I prefer 1911 gun designs, and typically carry one of two expensive versions, one in .45 and one in 9mm (the so-called 2011). In general, I much prefer hammer-fired to striker-fired pistols, like my beloved CZ-75 I had out to the range Saturday.

However, regarding ICE and other agencies leaving the P320 for (for the most part) Glocks, I really understand that. It’s a matter of both economy and safety. Many LEOs are not shooting aficionados like we are, and I used to collect stories about cops shooting themselves and others at their range qual shoots. They were shockingly easy to find.

And while I don’t prefer them, to be sure, having built (so far) three kit guns using Glock innards, and having done some shade tree gunsmithing on my several actual Glocks I have become an admirer of the design for Military/LEO use.

Gaston Glock really was a genius, and despite them being definitely FUGLY guns, they are brilliant designs in the class of the 1911, the AK47 or the M16. Not better than a 1911, but as enduring a design. And for good reason. While it will never be a 1911 (it can’t be) the Gen 5 Glock triggers are quite good for a striker-fired design, and with a little polishing and an aftermarket trigger shoe they can be made quite good. I haven’t fallen in love with a Glock yet, but I have developed a grudging admiration for them.

And given the stories I used to collect of police negligent discharges, I’d much prefer seeing departments outfitted with Glocks and would be horrified to see them issuing 1911 type guns. When I see a cocked and locked 1911 in a trooper’s holster I assume he/she is an avid shooter and I admire that. If they started issuing them to, say, the Chicago police department en masse? I’d never set foot in the city again.

Shooting aficionados don’t have to love Glocks. But I do love them for LEO use. They just make sense for all the right reasons. I rarely shoot mine because, well, I have too many other fun and pretty things to shoot. But they are good guns for the intended purpose. I’ve become a fan for those reasons, though I rarely shoot mine.

  3. Bugger! Those 10 end of the world scenarios are behind the Daily Mail’s paywall, and I’m not paying! Would have liked to have known what catastophe would have everyone in the world drop dead at once, though. Oh well, none are likely to happen in what’s left of my lifetime, despite the Atomic Scientisits goofing around with their doomsday clock.

Christianne Amanpour may have been a tart in her teens, but she’s well past that now. And if Dita von Tease want to be objectified and sexualized, I’m behind her (and in front of her, and…).
