Reader Brad_In_IL suggests that Palmetto State Armory has an overstock of the excellent S&W Model 686; that, or they’re just using it as a loss leader — the retail term that is used to describe an advertising campaign which features a product at a ridiculously-low price to attract customers into the store, where they’ll buy not just the featured loss leader but (hopefully) other products at regular retail prices (which carry higher profit margins).
Here’s the aforementioned S&W 686 from PSA:

Phew. Okay, that’s really tempting. [checks bank account]
Shit.
If I hadn’t have just bought a Ruger GP100, that’d be real tempting. But I’d want the 4″ barrel. Which is not on sale. Darn.
It’s a Valentine’s day sale. Cause nothing says “I love you” more than 6 rounds of .357 magnum.
Ugh, hillary hole….big negative even if they were free.
The words “Hillary” and “hole” should never appear in the same sentence. You should be ashamed of yourself.
LOL True, but I didn’t coin the term, I just hate the clintons **spit* for being the reason for its existence.
I manage to stomach using the term by thinking “grave” when it gets to the hole part.
I’ve got a 686 with 6” barrel. It was great for shooting PPC. I found that 6” barrel too long for a concealed carry gun. My 4” 686+ would be handier for that. So would my Ruger 4” gp100 .
Bad timing. I have a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 .22LR sitting in Savannah waiting on me to pick it up. A 686 with a 6″ barrel? Very tempting just for investment reasons. I am happy with my 65-2 with a 4″ barrel.
Thanks, Kim. I have ordered one. I used to have a 686 4″ barrel and a 6″ barrel Ruger Security 6/Model 717 but financial difficulties… On my wish list is a 4″ barrel Ruger .357 magnum. I have also ordered two WW1 reproduction stocks, and reproduction long bayonets and scabbards for my Rock Island and Remington 1903 Springfields. I also bought two USGI WW2 style bayonets and scabbards for my Smith-Corona and Remington 1903-A3 Springfields. In addition I have two M1 carbines and three M1 Garands, two 30.06, one 7.62 NATO. Michigan winter weather and a serious leg injury prevents me from shooting. Thursday of next week I go to MyMichigan in Saginaw for surgery.
