Not-So-Greener Pastures

I read the following article with interest:

More than half of young people have considered leaving Britain under Labour, a think tank has found.
Adults between 18-30 years old said they had “serious concerns” about housing, personal finances and their future in the UK, leaving them “overtaxed, underhoused and undervalued”.
According to The Adam Smith Institute poll, 28 per cent of young Britons are either actively planning (8 per cent) or have seriously considered (20 per cent) emigrating. A further 30 per cent have briefly considered it.

But:

The researchers found that Australia, the USA, Canada and Italy were the most popular destinations for young people considering emigrating.

Well, okay then.  Certainly, anyone looking for better prospects that they have in once-Great Britain might certainly consider the USA — although the current MAGA attitude of Americans might well stick in their craw, if they believe everything they’ve been told by the BBC et al.

But Strylia and Canuckistan?

I don’ thank so, Scooter.

There are good reasons to suspect that Down Under and the Great White Place provide, if anything, even worse prospects for the more youthful than their home country.  (Just wait till they try to find affordable accommodation in Sydney / Melbourne or Toronto / Vancouver.  Might as well go to Chelsea / Knightsbridge.)

As for the socio-political world… oy.  Both Strylia and Canuckistan almost define the term “woke” in terms of their attitude, and their respective national governments are on a par with Britishland’s when it comes to dismal economic prospects.

And finally:  I’m not sure that Murka really wants a bunch of young Brits transplanted Over Here, given that said demographic group is in thrall to working from home (WFH), wokeness and similar nonsense.  Now, if we were talking about their parents (e.g Mr. Free Market and his ilk) — now that’s a more acceptable prospect;  but those worthies have already made plans to move to Switzerland, Monaco and other exotic, low-tax or tax-free locales.

Try Italy, kids.  Just deal with the fact that you’ll have to learn to speak Italian because surprise, surprise:  not everyone wants to speak English, or is prepared to put up with people who refuse to speak anything but.  Also, I have a suspicion that your Italian peer group probably feels about their prospects in Italy in exactly the same way that you do yours in the UK.

Good luck with that.

One Small Detail

I see that ICE is doing the right thing and deporting the entire family of the Boulder Bomber (who is, lest we forget, an illegal alien).  This is a Good Thing.

The wife and children of Egyptian illegal alien Mohamad Soliman, the terrorist who firebombed Americans peacefully walking on the street in downtown Boulder Sunday, have been taken into Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody and will be deported soon. The family is being processed for expedited removal, which allows rapid deportation without a hearing before an immigration court/judge.

I just hope that on the way out, the State Department remembers to revoke any U.S. citizenship that may have resulted from in-country births.  (Note:  this is one good reason why Trump is attempting to end the “citizenship-by-birth” boondoggle, which hardly exists outside the U.S. anyway.)

There Goes The Neighborhood

Argh, now we’ve done it:

A U.S. Department of State official told the outlet on Friday that the Trump administration is hoping to take in many more than the small group of 59 Afrikaners that arrived in Washington, DC, last month.

“We won’t be talking about dozens of arrivals, but hundreds and perhaps thousands,” the official said. While they did not specify an exact time frame, the official added that “we’ll start to massively scale this up” towards the “second half of summer.”

Referring to a backlog of more than 50,000 applications for refugee status from Afrikaners, who frequently face political and racial violence in their home country, the official added that this number will “continue to rise.”

I can guarantee one thing:  these particular transplants will allow themselves to be quickly absorbed into our society.  Very soon, their kids will be speaking with American accents and will be indistinguishable from native-born Murkins.  (In the case of one of my Seffrican buddies, his two preteen daughters were speaking with full American accents within a year of their arrival.)

Kim’s Law of Groups states that in any population numbering more than a dozen, the chances are that ten percent will turn out to be assholes.  For some reason, I think the chances of these Dutchies becoming criminals will be rather less than that.

Anyway, it’s a whole bunch of conservative, God-fearing folks with very traditional family values, a profound knowledge of dry-weather farming, and a strong work ethic.

We could do a lot worse.

Nobody Cares

Much has been made of this action:

The Episcopal Church has announced it will end its decades-old partnership with the government to resettle refugees, citing moral opposition to resettling white Afrikaners from South Africa who have been classified as refugees by the Trump admin.

Don’t bother yourselves about it.

Afrikaners, in general, belong to the ultra-Calvinist Dutch Reformed Church and absolutely loathe the Church of England, a little because of that “England” bit (#BoerWar), but mostly because the CofE / Episcopalians have over the years become a bunch of screaming Commies.

So thanks but no thanks, Episcopals.

I don’t know where the newly-arrived Dutchies will choose to go to church, but it would be interesting to see what they decide.

And just to be clear, the American version of the DRC (Reform Church of America) can stop licking their lips at the thought of new members, because even they will be regarded as hopelessly liberal by the Afrikaners.

As for the Episcopals wanting to “end its decades-old partnership with the government to resettle refugees” , that’s a Good Thing because they’ve also encouraged and abetted illegal immigrants.

And that’s no longer a thing with our newly-elected Administration, thank goodness.

Quote Of The Day

From the Reform UK party’s first elected mayor, Andrea Jenkyns:

“I say no to putting [illegal immigrants] in hotels. Tents are good enough for [them in] France, they should be good enough for here in Britain.”

Her logic is irrefutable.

Of course, my suggestion (that the tent encampments should be located on uninhabited islands in the Outer Hebrides, far away from the British mainland) would no doubt be considered too Krool & Hartless, even by Dame Andrea.

Learn It Or Don’t Bother

Oh boo-hoo-hoo.  In his latest oh-so-Hitler initiative, POTUS Trump has caused massive heartache to immigrants:

In keeping with his March 1 order making English the official language of the United States, the president has directed the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to cancel a contract with a translation service provider, according to Government Executive magazine.

The translation service was offered to migrants calling the department for information about their status under E-Verify and other government programs.

The administration is also now directing agency call center employees to terminate any call from a caller who can’t make his needs known in English.

Yup:  as in most countries, if you don’t speak the country’s official language, you’re screwed.

Here’s the real deal.  The article linked above talks about audio translation services.  What is not discussed is the paper (and processing) cost of providing documentation to would-be immigrants — in multiple languages.

It’s complete bollocks.  Nothing screams inefficiency like having to do everything twice — or more times — which in essence is what’s being ended here.

As I’ve said countless times before, if you’re going to move to a foreign country, learn to speak its fucking home language before embarking on the journey.  Nothing is more irritating than having to deal with people from another country who insist that you speak their language in dealing with them.  It’s nothing less than a divisive and arrogant attitude, coming from people who have no right to be so in their adopted country.

As an immigrant, you’re here on sufferance, not entitlement.  And the sooner the huddled masses learn that lesson, the easier it will be for them in the long term.  Fit in or fuck off.
