Boomershoot Update

Managed (finally!) to secure one of these bad boys for the annual Boomershoot ULD drawing:

It’s the Savage 110 Apex Predator XP:  Accu-Trigger, .308 Win, 20″ heavy (threaded) barrel, camo stock.  I can’t wait to get it to the range and sight it in.

That’s not the scope it will come with, by the way;  I’m still a little undecided between a Vortex 5-25x50mm or a Meopta of similar magnification.  It all depends on how much more I can raise in the next couple weeks.

Which [segue alert]  reminds me:  $25 per entry, no limit on the number of entries, checks or PayPal.  Please be generous so that I can actually afford to go to the abovementioned event, not to mention afford the .308 ammo (!!!! holy balls !!!!).    I will send all unfired ammo, if any remains, to the lucky winner as well.

Also:  for those who have already entered, please send me yer email addy via kim – at – kimdutoitdotcom so I can notify you if you’ve won, and keep it anonymous.

  1. Hmmmmmmm.

    20” pipe?

5-25 is a bit optimistic. 4-16 would be ample for a gun like that, unless you are going out to 1000 yards…. I went part way down the ‘econo-gun’ road years ago, and… never again. The cost and time of building them into something worthwhile just wasn’t for me.

    1. I’ve had excellent results with a 20″-barrelled .308 rifle at Boomershoot before — Son&Heir pronounced it “boring” after he popped four with four shots. The scope was a 20x.
Those boomers are REALLY small targets…

  2. I was in for 4 tickets, now I’m in for 12, based on the choice.
    You piss excellence, I’m sure.

No need to pile on with the scope choice, but that’s not a 1000-yard shooter. There is a lot of glass for 400-700 yard guns that will do the job. I am partial to the Vortex brand, but if you get enough coin there are a couple of Swarovski clone scopes (yeah, Meopta) that would give you all you ask for and more.

I’m no expert. It’s easy for me to find scopes that will outshoot my vision, so have at it. Take my money and enjoy.

    1. Meopta are Zeiss clones — actually, Zeiss Conquest scopes are rebranded Meoptas — but Meopta is certainly an option, with sufficient funding.
I’ve looked at the Vortex, and I am REALLY impressed with them, too.
