Kim’s Black Friday Half-Dozen – Rifles

Collectors Firearms is publicizing their Black Friday Sale, and I thought I’d shuffle over to the Curio & Relic (C&R) department to see which caught my fancy.  (Not that I can afford any of them, of course, but the 20% discounts being offered make these rifles at least reachable for anyone with a few hundred buck or so to spare.)  Links in description.

Mosin M44 Trunk Gun

Schmidt-Rubin K31 (with bayonet)

Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk1

Brno Mauser K98k

Remington ’03-A3

Venezuela Mauser K98k

And a bonus:  Schmidt-Rubin K11
…because its forged action just sounds better than the K31’s cast action.

Honorable mention:  Chilean Banner Mauser, which looks lovely but is still priced too high, even with the discount.

Anyway, they’re all worth a look.

All the pistols, with the possible exception of the Colt 1903, are too damn spendy.  Collectors only.

  1. GM Kim,
Looked at the first few pages of the C&R offerings .. wow .. nosebleed, even w/ the discounts. Glad I bought my M44 when I did. I may have to bite-the-bullet and get me a CMP Garand. Two nice things about the Garand .. (1) It does not run afoul of the foul IL AWB, aka the Protect IL Communities Act and (2) It is a true weapon of war, having been used in countless armed conflicts around the globe.

Come January, my copy of the venerable M44 (aka The Russian Blunderbuss) will be making more frequent appearances at Ye Local Sportin’ Club. I haven’t shot this beast as of late, and I’m starting to feel the need for a good shoulder-thumping. Maybe come January .. ostensibly because the fireball from the M44 will help keep me warm at outdoor range located in Southern Wisconsin.

Best regards, Happy Thanksgiving, etc. etc.

    1. Deplorable,
do whatever you hve to do to get a CMP Garand. Eat PB&J and Ramen for months if you have to. They are well worth the money. Buy the best grade you can. Also, pick up a can of ammunition with it. The 30-06 caliber is a great cartridge. The rifle is a joy to shoot.

  2. Great rifles! The prices have risen considerably. The first SMLE I bought was an early 1900s manufacture and I paid less than $200 for it. I lucked out in finding a 1903A3 at half the price Collector’s is asking for their rifle.

  3. Buy them all. You can’t go wrong. And any gun guy needs a Garand (I have 3, and no, I’m not parting with any. I’m in the market for a Winchester manufactured one, however).

Much more spendy than they used to be, however. And if you’re buying to “invest,” I frankly wonder how much higher these are likely to go. I’m guessing not much higher, but, again, I could be wrong. The 100 years after WWI bump hasn’t gone away, but those guns don’t appear to be appreciating like they did 6-8 years ago. The WWII generation is largely gone, so most of those guns held by veterans and children of veterans are all out there; WWII awareness in the general market seems to have died down – the video game/movies about WWII seem to have died off some.

I don’t buy these to invest anyway. I shoot all of mine. All of them. Even the relatively rare ones.

  4. I certainly need a 1903A3 and a Garand for the collection

And I also want a Lee Enfield in 303 British

Lastly, I want the Venezuelan K98 in 7mm Mauser to go with my beautiful FN48 Venezuelan that I have in that caliber

  5. Are these prices for “collectable” firearms, or are they (approximately) correct for “normal” weapons?
